Pye Finance has secured $5 million in a seed funding round led by Variant and Coinbase Ventures, with additional participation from Solana Labs, Nascent, and Gemini. The startup is building an on-chain market on Solana focused on improving liquidity and yield management for staked assets.
A market for time-locked staking positions
The project’s core idea is to make time-locked staked assets more tradable. Pye Finance plans to split staked SOL into independently transferable principal tokens and reward tokens. By separating the underlying value of the stake from its future yield, the platform aims to give users more flexibility in how they manage staking exposure.
In practice, this structure could help address one of the key frictions in staking markets: limited liquidity during lock-up periods. Instead of holding a single illiquid position until maturity, users may be able to trade or manage each component separately, opening up new possibilities for yield strategies and capital efficiency within Solana DeFi.
Private testing expected in Q1 2026
According to the announcement, private testing is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026. No additional details were provided on launch timing, token design, or specific platform mechanics, but the investor lineup signals notable interest in infrastructure aimed at expanding the utility of staked SOL.
The raise highlights continued backing for Solana-based DeFi products, particularly those targeting staking-related liquidity. If Pye Finance executes on its model, tradable representations of locked staking positions could become an area to watch across the broader Solana ecosystem.
