Qualcomm has announced a double-digit percentage increase in chip prices, effective September 1, applying to all chips shipped on or after that date. The company told customers back in July that it could no longer absorb rising costs coming from suppliers. In an interview with Reuters, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said the increase simply passes on the significant cost pressure that Qualcomm is facing. The price adjustment covers Qualcomm's entire product line, including mobile chips for Samsung and other handset makers, with the exact terms negotiated separately with each customer. Apple is still buying modem chips from Qualcomm for the iPhone 17 lineup, but it is also moving toward developing its own modems. Qualcomm now expects revenue from Apple to decline much faster than previously expected, by roughly 50% from the September quarter to the December quarter, as supply limits reduce the share of Qualcomm components used in the iPhone 18 series.
