Rocket blockchain suffered an on-chain attack on September 5, resulting in losses of approximately $287,000. The attacker exploited a dormant perpetual market on Rocket, generating fake profits and then withdrawing them via the Bridge. All deposits, withdrawals, and trading are currently suspended. The team is collaborating with security firms and law enforcement to trace and freeze the stolen funds, and priority will be given to small account refunds in the recovery plan.

Attack Details

Rocket blockchain took an on-chain hit on September 5, and the loss came to about $287,000. In the official statement, the team said the attacker abused a dormant perpetual market on Rocket. The method was blunt: place inflated price orders through a one-time account, then trade against that same account. That created bogus profits in the account, while the one-time account was pushed into bankruptcy. After that, the attacker pulled out roughly $287,000 in profits through the Bridge.

Emergency Measures and Recovery Plan

For now, all deposits, withdrawals, and trading are suspended. The team says it is working with security firms and law enforcement agencies, while also coordinating with exchanges, cross-chain bridges, and stablecoin issuers to trace the stolen funds and freeze them. And the official team said a recovery plan is now being put together, with refunds for small accounts first in line. Details, they said, will be announced soon.
