Stablecoin funds continued to move from South Korea to offshore crypto venues in June, according to data cited by the Financial Supervisory Service. The country’s five major crypto exchanges sent KRW 2.7625 trillion worth of stablecoins to overseas exchanges during the month, while inflows totaled KRW 2.2022 trillion. That left a net outflow of about KRW 560.3 billion, or roughly $367 million.
The data also showed that outbound stablecoin flows have exceeded inbound flows every month from January 2025 through June 2026, extending the streak to 18 consecutive months. On a quarterly basis, South Korea recorded KRW 1.6872 trillion in net stablecoin outflows in the second quarter of 2026. Over the same period, overseas stock investment posted net selling of KRW 1.6185 trillion.
According to analysis cited by Yonhap News Agency, the stablecoins sent abroad were mainly used for products unavailable on domestic exchanges, including crypto derivatives, spot and futures products tied to South Korean stocks, and services such as real-world assets, or RWA, and decentralized finance, or DeFi. A member of the National Assembly said capital outflows and the rise of high-leverage trading on overseas platforms have increased risks for investors, and called for stronger regulatory and investor protection measures.
