South Korea’s stablecoin market continued to send capital offshore in June 2026, according to data cited by Yonhap News and attributed to the Financial Supervisory Service. The country’s five largest crypto exchanges transferred KRW 2.7625 trillion in stablecoins to overseas trading platforms during the month, while KRW 2.2022 trillion flowed back in, leaving a net outflow of KRW 560.3 billion. That amount was equal to 77.6% of the roughly KRW 722 billion in net overseas stock purchases made by Korean investors over the same period. The data also showed that stablecoins recorded net outflows for 18 consecutive months from January 2025 through June 2026. In the second quarter alone, net stablecoin outflows reached KRW 1.6872 trillion, while overseas stocks saw net selling of KRW 1.6185 trillion. The report said the funds were largely used for overseas derivatives trading not offered by domestic Korean exchanges. Some offshore platforms have recently listed spot and futures products tied to Korean stocks including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Hyundai Motor, with leverage reaching tens of times. RWA, DeFi, and staking services were also cited as drivers of overseas capital flows.
