South Korean neobank KBank has submitted 13 trademark applications for stablecoin wallets to the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS). The applications cover names such as KSC Wallet, KSTA Wallet, Kstable Wallet, and KBank SC Wallet, spanning software for cryptocurrency transactions and financial services.
Stablecoin Wallets Targeting Payments, Remittances, and Settlements
The trademark filings indicate KBank is developing a comprehensive wallet system intended to handle remittances, payments, and settlements using stablecoins. This comes as South Korean regulators finalize a legal framework for stablecoins and crypto-related products. The neobank's aggressive push aligns with its third attempt to go public after two failed IPOs in 2023 and 2024 — the listing on KOSPI is scheduled for March 5, 2026.
IPO Proceeds to Fuel Digital Asset Business
KBank plans to channel funds from the IPO into accelerating its digital asset business, including expanding stablecoin services and developing new digital products. Since 2020, the bank's exclusive partnership with Upbit, South Korea's largest crypto exchange, has driven its user base to over 15 million — a 500% increase. The bank's custody and banking services for Upbit users have been a key growth driver.
Cross-Border Stablecoin Partnership with Thailand's Kasikorn Bank
In addition to the trademark filings, KBank recently forged a partnership with BPMG, Thailand's Kasikorn Bank, and Orbix Technology to create a stablecoin-based finance solution for cross-border transactions between South Korea and Thailand. The service targets Thai tourists and workers living in South Korea, aiming to lower costs and speed up settlement for remittances.
With regulatory clarity emerging in South Korea and a concrete IPO timetable, KBank is positioning itself as a frontrunner in the stablecoin wallet space. Whether its integrated wallet can secure the necessary licenses from financial authorities will determine if this ambitious plan becomes reality.
