Strategy sold 3,588 BTC for $216 million, but Bitcoin only dipped briefly before rebounding to $63,800. Total holdings remain at 843,775 BTC, and cash reserves climbed to $2.55 billion.

Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) sold 3,588 Bitcoin on July 6 for approximately $216 million. The announcement initially triggered a sharp drop, but Bitcoin quickly recovered and bounced to $63,800 — the selling pressure failed to break market confidence.

Market Reaction: Brief Sell-Off, Swift Recovery

The news sparked immediate pressure on crypto markets, with Strategy shares falling about 4% in pre-market trading and Bitcoin sliding. However, the weakness was short-lived. Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley noted, “Bitcoin wants to head higher.” Overall investor sentiment remained intact despite the large sale.

As of the statement, Strategy holds 843,775 BTC in total. Its cash reserves have also reached $2.55 billion, underscoring a robust financial position.

Macro Boost: Rate Cut Hopes Lift Risk Assets

Bitcoin's rebound came amid continued macro volatility. Softer U.S. labor data boosted expectations that the Federal Reserve may cut interest rates, providing support for riskier assets like cryptocurrencies. While the short-term trend is encouraging, persistent ETF flows and market positioning continue to pressure Bitcoin, and price volatility is expected to persist.

Grayscale on Financing Structure: New Framework Eases Uncertainty

Grayscale Research head Zach Pandl commented that Strategy's moves to strengthen its digital asset-focused treasury structure could help restore confidence in its financing model. Pandl believes this may help Bitcoin find a more sustainable price floor over the longer term. He emphasized that Strategy's balance sheet remains strong, though shifting market conditions have created some uncertainty in recent months.

In late May, the company's cash reserves had fallen to roughly $870 million, covering only about six months of preferred dividend obligations. This raised questions about whether Strategy would issue new shares at lower valuations, sell some Bitcoin, or adopt alternative strategies. A new framework unveiled at the end of June appears to have reduced that uncertainty. Following the $216 million Bitcoin sale, cash reserves climbed to $2.55 billion — enough to cover about 17 months of dividend commitments.
