On August 5, 2022, luxury jewelry retailer Tiffany & Co. announced that its non-fungible token (NFT) collection, called 'Nftiff,' had completely sold out. The sale consisted of 250 NFTs, each priced at 30 ether (ETH) — approximately $50,000 at the time — netting the company over $12.5 million in revenue. The Nftiff NFTs are linked to physical custom pendants inspired by Cryptopunk NFTs, merging digital ownership with tangible luxury craftsmanship.
Sale Mechanics and Redemption Status
Tiffany's tweeted: 'We are sold out of all 250 Nftiff. Until the next mint.' According to data from Dune Analytics, 94 Nftiffs had been redeemed by 73 unique Cryptopunk owners as of August 7. Each Nftiff token allows the holder to commission a bespoke pendant, handcrafted by Tiffany artisans based on their chosen Cryptopunk design. The company described the process as straightforward: 'Purchase your NFT through the Nftiff gateway, choose your Cryptopunk and Tiffany artisans will transform it into a bespoke pendant.'
Secondary Market Performance
Despite the initial sell-out, secondary market activity showed mixed results. Data from Cryptoslam.io and NFTGo.io indicate that some Nftiff tokens changed hands at prices below the original mint price, with sales as low as 27 ETH — representing a loss for the sellers. For instance, Nftiff #42 sold for 27 ETH (roughly $46,000) on August 7. However, the floor price recovered to 30 ETH by the afternoon of the same day. Over the past seven days, the Nftiff collection ranked among the top NFT collections by sales volume, with 299 total transactions involving 182 holders across 48 active wallets.
A Landmark in Luxury NFT Adoption
Tiffany's venture into NFTs represents a significant milestone for traditional luxury brands embracing blockchain technology. By combining high-end jewelry customization with verifiable digital ownership, the company not only generated substantial immediate revenue but also strengthened its brand presence among crypto enthusiasts. Nevertheless, the volatility in secondary prices underscores the speculative nature of such limited-edition NFTs. Whether Tiffany's will launch additional NFT projects remains to be seen.
