Trump Media & Technology Group (Nasdaq: DJT), the parent company of Truth Social, said it will begin selling institutional clients millisecond-level real-time data feeds of posts from the platform’s 10 most influential accounts on Aug. 1. Fast Company and other outlets reported on July 16 that the product, called Truth API, had already signed up some customers ahead of launch, though pricing has not been disclosed.

In a company statement, interim CEO Kevin McGurn said “markets are moving because of Truth Social posts,” and described Truth API as part of Trump Media’s strategy to monetize proprietary assets through “high-margin, recurring revenue streams.”
On its own, the product resembles a standard enterprise API offering. X and Reddit have both pursued similar data businesses. What makes this case different is the company behind it and the central asset being sold: faster access to posts that can affect markets because they come from the sitting U.S. president’s social platform.
From SPAC listing to API sales
Trump Media’s recent history has not looked like that of a conventional media company built on advertising and subscriptions. In the first quarter of 2026, the company reported revenue of just $871,200. Net loss for the quarter reached $405.9 million, including $368.7 million in unrealized losses tied to digital assets and equity securities.
The article frames the company’s business evolution as a series of attempts to turn Donald Trump’s political influence and attention into monetizable assets.
In March 2024, Trump Media went public on Nasdaq through a SPAC transaction. DJT at one point traded above $40. In January 2025, the company launched the Truth.Fi fintech brand and initially allocated $250 million to Bitcoin and ETF products. Later that year it partnered with Crypto.com on “America First” themed ETFs and applied for a spot Bitcoin ETF.
In May 2025, Trump Media said it had raised more than $2.3 billion through stock sales and convertible debt to build a Bitcoin treasury. By Q1 2026, the company held 9,542 BTC worth about $767 million at an average price of $118,529, as well as 756 million CRO worth about $54 million. Total assets rose from $759 million a year earlier to $2.2 billion. The trade-off showed up quickly: with Bitcoin down 22% in the first quarter, the company booked more than $400 million in unrealized losses.
In December 2025, Trump Media announced an all-stock merger with fusion company TAE Technologies at a valuation above $6 billion. Then in June 2026, it dropped plans to spin off Truth Social as a standalone company.

Truth API marks a different step. Instead of relying on stock-market enthusiasm, crypto exposure, or dealmaking, Trump Media is now packaging the market-moving value of Trump’s posts into a product that can be bought directly.
A paid data product built around a sitting president’s posts
The issue is not that social platforms sell data access. Many do. The issue is that the most influential account on this platform belongs to the U.S. president.
Virginia Canter, an ethics lawyer, told CNBC the arrangement is “a huge conflict of interest.” She said the president “has an obligation to communicate openly with the American people, and now he is communicating through a private channel, one in which he is one of the largest shareholders.”
The article points to several examples in which Trump’s Truth Social posts moved markets. His comments about Iran and the Strait of Hormuz affected oil prices. In spring 2025, posts about tariffs were followed by a stock-market selloff, and later posts about rolling back some tariffs helped lift stocks.
McGurn told Axios that companies had previously spent months scraping Truth Social data without authorization and in repeated violation of the platform’s terms of service. The official API, he said, would turn that demand into a legal and commercial product. He also said Trump Media is discussing licensing Truth Social data to AI companies for large language model training.
CNN report surfaced the same day
The timing drew extra scrutiny because CNN published an investigation on July 16, the same day Truth API was announced. According to CNN, Trump bought shares in 21 companies and then, within days, posted praise for those same companies on Truth Social. Some of those posts also announced possible government actions that could benefit them.
CNN said it used AI tools to compare a database of Trump’s Truth Social posts with the full stock-trading list in his annual financial disclosure. It found that Trump made at least 44 stock purchases involving 21 companies within one week and later published favorable posts about them.

One example cited in the article involved Nvidia. In early April 2025, Trump’s account bought between $200,000 and $500,000 worth of Nvidia shares. Days later, he celebrated Nvidia’s U.S. expansion on Truth Social and said that “all necessary permits will be expedited.” Another example involved Tesla: Trump invested at least $4 million in the company last year, including purchases made before he posted a video of himself and Elon Musk looking at Tesla vehicles on the White House lawn.
The White House responded by saying Trump’s assets are held in a discretionary account managed by an independent third-party financial institution, and that neither Trump nor his family has “any control” over which stocks are bought or sold.
Low revenue, multibillion-dollar valuation
As of July 13, DJT traded at $8.56, giving the company a market capitalization of about $2.37 billion. The stock was down more than 56% over the past year and nearly 80% from levels above $40 before Trump took office.
Still, the article argues that Trump Media’s valuation has never been supported by revenue alone. In Q1 2026, total assets stood at $2.2 billion, including roughly $2.1 billion in financial assets. Its Bitcoin treasury, the Truth.Fi financial product line, expectations tied to the TAE Technologies merger, and now the prospect of Truth API licensing revenue all feed into what the article describes as a “Trump concept holding company” narrative.
How much money Truth API can generate remains unknown. Trump Media has not released pricing and has not disclosed the number or size of signed customers. The piece notes that X charges $42,000 per month for its base enterprise API package, while Reddit also made data licensing a core revenue narrative before its IPO. But Truth Social is structured differently from either of those businesses. X has a global user base. Reddit has massive amounts of user-generated content. Truth Social’s core asset is concentrated around one person.
The article summarizes Trump Media’s path over the past two years in four steps: using a SPAC to convert influence into equity value, using a Bitcoin treasury to enlarge the balance sheet, using the TAE deal to widen the holding-company story, and using Truth API to sell the information advantage itself.
It closes on the larger question. U.S. presidents have typically tried to avoid conflicts of interest by selling personal stock holdings, divesting business interests, or placing assets into blind trusts. Trump did not take those steps. For market observers, the debate is no longer only whether Truth Social can make money. It is whether a sitting president’s social-media platform can openly price and sell information advantages to Wall Street without crossing regulatory and ethical lines.
