UniCredit is exploring a broader push into digital assets and is considering adding cryptocurrency custody and brokerage services, according to a report cited by Techub. The bank has already begun screening technology providers that could hold assets and process client trades, though discussions remain at an early stage and no final decision has been made.
The scope under review goes beyond custody and brokerage. UniCredit is also considering tokenized investment products, fixed-income securities, and stablecoin applications for clients. The move would build on several steps the bank has already taken in the crypto and tokenization space.
In July 2025, UniCredit launched a U.S. dollar-denominated certificate linked to BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust for professional clients. In December 2025, it worked with Italy’s state savings bank to issue the country’s first tokenized mini-bond on Polygon. The bank is also part of the Qivalis consortium, which plans to launch a MiCA-compliant euro stablecoin in the second half of 2026.
Any crypto service offered by UniCredit would need to comply with the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, or MiCA. The transitional period for the framework ended on July 1, 2024, and crypto-asset service providers are required to hold a license.

MiCA rules would apply
