Xverse, a bitcoin wallet, has announced a new joint bitcoin staking service that allows users to pair their sBTC tokens with STX tokens and participate in the PoX-5 lock-up cycle on the Stacks network. The key feature is that during the staking period, the bitcoin remains on the Bitcoin mainnet and is fully controlled by the user, without any need for cross-chain bridging or wrapping. To use this service, users must upgrade to Xverse v2.9. Registration is open until September 9, or until the quota is filled. Staking rewards are expected to start being distributed on September 10, corresponding to Bitcoin block 966350 and Stacks epoch 143. Several institutions have joined as anchor participants, including UTXO (a subsidiary of Nakamoto Inc.), HashKey Cloud, and 21shares. Previously, Xverse had managed approximately 152 million STX in non-custodial staking.
