Zakura, the team behind the Zcash full-node client, has released Zakura Common, a library that supplies cryptographic and protocol functions for the Zcash ecosystem. According to official benchmarks released with the announcement, the new library delivers significant performance improvements. Mobile proof generation speed is now more than 14 times faster. Desktop proof generation speed is more than 5 times faster. Sinsemilla hashing speed is more than 21 times faster, while trial decryption speed is more than 1.5 times faster. zk-SNARK verification speed improves by a factor of 4 to 8. In many cases, the time it takes to create a transaction in a wallet can be reduced from more than 3 seconds to under 200 milliseconds. The improvements do not require a network upgrade. Zakura Common is available as open source under the dual MIT and Apache 2.0 licenses. Zakura 1.3.0, the upcoming version of the client, will switch to this technology stack.
