Pretty Good Policy for Zcash, or PGPZ, has filed a lobbying registration in the United States, according to Cointelegraph. The registration took effect on Oct. 1, with executive director Divij Pandya listed as the only registered lobbyist.
The move shows that the privacy-focused cryptocurrency ecosystem around Zcash is stepping up its efforts to influence U.S. digital asset policy.
Filing lists market structure bill and tax proposals
The registration names the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act and two digital asset tax proposals as PGPZ’s current and expected lobbying issues.
Group was formed in June
PGPZ was formed in June this year. It grew out of Pretty Good Policy for Crypto, an initiative launched by Electric Coin Co. in 2022. That initiative previously held a policy roundtable in Washington and organized a congressional briefing on crypto technology in 2023.
Founder says the aim is to give Zcash an organized voice in Washington
Paul Brigner, founder of PGPZ and chief policy and regulatory officer at ZODL, said the goal is to “ensure that Zcash has serious, organized, and credible policy engagement in Washington.”
He said decisions now being made by policymakers will affect whether privacy-preserving digital cash can exist, whether it can be used legally, and whether it can serve the public interest. He said PGPZ’s role is to make sure Zcash is understood, represented, and defended in those discussions.
$750,000 grant approved in August
In August, Zcash Community Grants approved a $750,000 grant to support PGPZ’s first year of work.
