Samsung Holds Back High NA EUV Production Rollout as Foundry Profitability Takes Priority

Samsung Electronics has installed two High-NA extreme ultraviolet lithography systems for its foundry business, but it is not yet putting the tools into mass-production lines. The decision reflects a cautious capital allocation stance rather than a clear technology bottleneck. According to the report, Samsung’s foundry unit is seen as one of the businesses most likely to return to profit as early as the fourth quarter this year after years of losses. Bringing expensive equipment fully online now would lift depreciation and operating costs, increasing fixed expenses at a sensitive point in the unit’s earnings recovery. At the same time, Samsung’s reported 2 nm yield has reached about 55%, close to the roughly 60% threshold that the industry commonly views as sufficient for stable mass production. That suggests the company’s hesitation is not mainly about process readiness for High NA EUV. Korean media said Samsung is keeping equipment spending to a minimum until the foundry business has a clearer path to sustainable profitability. The move shows a practical balance in the advanced-node race: the company has the technology and tools in place, but financial discipline is being treated as more urgent than accelerating the catch-up pace.

OUSD’s consortium model shakes up stablecoins as 140 institutions back a new revenue-sharing structure

Open Standard said on June 30, 2026 that it plans to launch Open USD, or OUSD, a dollar-pegged stablecoin built around a consortium rather than a single issuer. The announcement drew immediate market attention even before launch and with zero circulation, as shares of USDC issuer Circle, trading on the NYSE under CRCL, fell about 15% to 18% on the day. OUSD is tied to a network of more than 140 institutions that includes Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, BlackRock, Coinbase and Google. The project’s core pitch is a break from the dominant stablecoin business model. Instead of allowing one issuer to keep most reserve income, OUSD proposes free minting and redemption for enterprise members, shared reserve yield after a small management fee, and board-led governance by participating companies. That structure lands at a sensitive moment for the sector, where USDT and USDC together account for about 86% of a market worth more than $300 billion, and where Circle derived roughly 94% to 96% of its first-quarter 2026 revenue from reserve interest. The model also arrives under a changing regulatory backdrop shaped by the U.S. GENIUS Act, while raising questions about alliance governance, global licensing, the credibility of its partner list, and whether a new entrant can overcome the liquidity and trading-pair advantages already held by incumbent issuers.

GoPlus says Ostium exploit may stem from compromised admin key, with losses estimated at $11.86 million

GoPlus said the attack on Ostium, an RWA trading platform on Arbitrum, may have been caused by a leak of an administrator account’s private key, with estimated losses of about $11.86 million. According to GoPlus, the attacker first opened a position through the openTrade function, then manipulated prices via performUpkeep, and finally used closeTradeMarket to lock in profit. The firm noted that prices submitted through performUpkeep require signature verification from an authorized account, suggesting that the private key tied to that account may have been exposed. Foresight News had earlier reported that Ostium was attacked on the previous evening, after which the platform halted all trading. The team is currently investigating the incident.

Ondo launches DTC-backed tokenized stocks as ONDO jumps 17% in 24 hours

Ondo Finance introduced two tokenized equity products on July 15 that it says are backed by tokenized entitlements held within the Depository Trust Company, or DTC, system. The first pair, CRCLon and SPYon, track Circle stock and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF, respectively. According to the source report, the products were connected to DTC’s participant network through Alpaca Markets, giving Ondo access to infrastructure tied to the core custody layer of U.S. securities markets. The report says this structure differs from many earlier on-chain stock offerings, which typically relied on brokers or other third parties to hold shares off-chain and then issue corresponding tokens. Ondo described the new instruments as “digital twins,” with each token fully backed by the related security entitlement. The market reacted quickly. ONDO rose about 17% within 24 hours and touched $0.37 after the announcement. On the same day, DTCC said it had completed tokenized transactions involving more than 30 institutions. Those trades covered Russell 1000 stocks, U.S. Treasuries, and ETFs tracking the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100. DTCC said its full tokenization service is expected to launch in October 2026.
