CoinEx Issues Official Statement Regarding WSJ Report: Denies Iran Ties, Emphasizes Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering Actions
CoinEx has released an official statement firmly denying any commercial cooperation with Iranian government entities or local exchanges, noting that it has been blacklisted by Iran since 2021 and its domain is blocked inside the country. The statement clarifies that transactions involving Alireza Derakhshan and Zedcex/Zanjani all occurred before U.S. sanctions were imposed, and highlights its immediate assistance to Bybit in account blocking and asset freezing after the Bybit hack. CoinEx also disclosed that it suffered a cyberattack attributed to a North Korea-linked group in 2023, losing nearly $80 million, and rejects any implication that on-chain fund flows equal platform knowledge or participation. The platform has initiated a comprehensive review and exit process for Iran-related exposures and continues to strengthen KYC, AML, sanctions screening, and on-chain risk monitoring capabilities.
