U.S. final October manufacturing PMI report shows stronger price pressure

The final S&P Global U.S. manufacturing PMI report for October showed that output and new orders continued to rise, though the pace of growth slowed from earlier readings. The report also said supply chain disruptions remained in place, adding to price pressure across the sector. At the same time, employment growth reached its highest level in five and a half years. The update points to a manufacturing sector that is still expanding in key areas, but with momentum easing while cost pressure builds. The combination of slower growth in production and orders, persistent supply chain strain, and a sharp pickup in hiring was the main takeaway from the report cited by ChainCatcher.

Anthropic posts $16.956 billion in Q3 revenue, reports $23.291 billion net loss

Anthropic said in an amended IPO prospectus filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that its revenue for the third quarter of 2026 reached $16.956 billion, up 1,127% from $1.382 billion a year earlier. Net loss came to about $23.291 billion, compared with roughly $12.138 billion in the same period last year. The filing showed compute and infrastructure costs of $9.863 billion in the quarter, equal to about 58% of revenue and up 382% year over year. Operating loss narrowed to $567 million from $3.089 billion, while adjusted operating profit was $2.463 billion, with an adjusted operating margin of 15%, versus negative 93% a year earlier. Anthropic said the quarterly net loss included about $21.936 billion in fair value change losses tied to convertible notes, derivative liabilities, and SAFE instruments, adding that the item was mainly related to accounting remeasurement of financial instruments rather than a cash outflow of the same size. As of Sept. 30, the company had more than 11,900 customers that generated at least $100,000 in revenue over the prior 12 months, including about 250 customers contributing at least $10 million. Cash and short-term investments totaled about $131.9 billion, and total committed spending under compute procurement and lease agreements signed by and after that date was about $895.4 billion.

Ignas criticizes KAST token plan, says user benefits remain unclear despite heavy legal spending

DeFi researcher Ignas criticized what he described as the crypto industry’s growing reliance on legal counsel, arguing that excessive lawyer-led decision-making can come at the expense of innovation. Citing Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, he said companies run by lawyers may be better at avoiding trouble, but can also lose their ability to build boldly. Ignas made the remarks while commenting on KAST’s recently announced points conversion plan. He said that even if a project spends millions of dollars on lawyers, it can still be unclear what users will actually receive in the end. In his view, tokens often fail to align with community interests and can instead become tools for teams or insiders to extract value, while offering no ownership rights or other legal rights. He added that tokens may still have functions that equity cannot provide. Even so, Ignas called on projects to spend resources designing tokens that are genuinely aligned with their communities. He also placed KAST alongside Pump, OpenSea, and MetaMask on what he called his "disappointment list," saying those projects had not delivered on earlier promises.

Gold posts its worst October since 2008 as tech-stock sell-off adds liquidity stress

Spot gold logged its weakest October performance since 2008, according to data cited by Odaily from Gate. The report said gold fell about 17% in October 2008, while this October’s decline has reached roughly 6.7%, leaving it well below the range that has typically defined most October moves in past years, between -3% and +7%. On Friday alone, gold dropped 3.6% in a single session and hit a one-year low. Odaily said the latest decline has been driven by two main forces. The first was a fundamentals-based drag, as oil prices fueled inflation concerns and strengthened market pricing for further rate hikes. The second came from a sell-off in technology stocks, which forced investors to sell gold as well, a move the report described as more consistent with a one-off liquidity shock. After oil prices fell sharply on Monday following news related to U.S.-Iran talks, that first source of pressure eased, which may have been part of the reason gold rebounded on Monday.

OpenAI signs Abu Dhabi deals spanning energy, investment and government

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met Sheikh Khaled, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and chairman of the Executive Council, and witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements with Abu Dhabi entities, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office and CNBC. The deals span energy, investment and government use cases. In the energy segment, ADNOC, G42 subsidiary Inception42 and OpenAI agreed to deploy OpenAI’s frontier models in ADNOC operations, with the company described as the first in the energy sector to use the technology. The capabilities are based on GPT models and will run on inference infrastructure located in the UAE. On the investment side, sovereign investor Mubadala, Inception42 and OpenAI agreed to use advanced AI for investment analysis, opportunity identification and risk assessment. Abu Dhabi’s government also launched a “machine-readable government” initiative with OpenAI to convert some policies and regulations into machine-readable formats for routine licensing and compliance reviews, while final decisions remain with government officials. A separate five-year agreement between Inception42 and OpenAI will support AI adoption across government, business and education in the UAE. CNBC also said OpenAI is seeking to raise up to about $20 billion in a new funding round, with UAE investors set to co-lead.
