SCOPED-Hiring paper flags hidden unfairness in multi-agent LLM hiring decisions

A paper accepted to the EMNLP 2026 Main Conference introduces SCOPED-Hiring, a process-aware fairness diagnosis framework for large language model (LLM) multi-agent systems used in hiring. The study argues that similar final hiring rates across groups do not necessarily mean the decision process was fair. Candidates can still face uneven burdens in the form of extra doubt, lower intermediate scores, added scrutiny, and different investigative standards. Using controlled resume variants and a two-stage hiring committee made up of role-based agents, the researchers recorded more than 311,000 structured decision trajectories. Across GPT, Gemini, and Qwen backends, they found that risks visible through process, pathway, interaction, and system design were much stronger than those visible from final outcomes alone. In the paper’s measurements, process-aware O/P/E/D signals showed average diagnostic significance 4.52x, 4.66x, and 2.74x higher than outcome-focused S/C signals. The team also tested a diagnosis-driven repair method called Fair Skills. In controlled experiments, the intervention reduced total stratified fairness burden by 72.3% while changing final hiring rates by only 1.86 percentage points, with output validity above 99.7%.

UAE detentions revive questions over Binance bank accounts

Protos reported that UAE police detained Binance employees at airports this summer, and one was held overnight in a Sharjah police station. According to the New York Times, police found the employees’ names on a corporate bank account Binance used for customer deposits and withdrawals. Binance said the staff were “promptly cleared and released” after inquiries tied to “third-party fund flows,” while describing other questions as routine. The report draws a parallel with 2023, when Reuters said Guangying “Heina” Chen controlled five Silvergate accounts used by Binance.US. Binance.US said it ran its own accounts; the SEC disagreed. Binance also holds a VARA licence in Dubai and full authorization from ADGM’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority, and Protos noted earlier investments and a 2025 pardon for CZ.

3AC Liquidators Sue Zhu Su’s Wife to Recover $40 Million From Dubai Property Sale

Three Arrows Capital liquidators have sued Zhu Su’s wife, Dr. Tao Yaqiong, seeking to recover roughly $40 million in proceeds from the sale of a Dubai property, according to a report by Commercial Times cited by BlockTempo. The claim centers on allegations that Zhu used $50 million in misappropriated company crypto assets to buy the property for AED 110 million, or about $30 million, in June 2022, three weeks before 3AC entered liquidation. The property was then transferred to Tao in October 2023 while Zhu was serving a sentence in Singapore, and sold in January 2024. Tao has denied the allegations. She says she did not know where the funds came from and asked the court to dismiss the suit on the basis that she was a good-faith recipient. The case adds to a broader, four-year recovery effort tied to the collapse of 3AC, which still owes creditors more than $3 billion. Liquidator Teneo is already pursuing about $1.3 billion from co-founders Zhu Su and Kyle Davies, while earlier court orders in Singapore froze $1.14 billion in assets linked to Zhu, Davies, and Davies’ wife Kelly Chen.
