24H crypto roundup: Hunter Biden eyes LAPTOP meme coin, whale Loracle adds to PONS short

Crypto markets on Sept. 8 were led by a mix of meme-coin headlines, whale positioning and sector rotation data. Hunter Biden, son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, is planning to launch a meme coin called LAPTOP, though no issuance date, supply details or token mechanics have been disclosed. The token is tied to the politically charged “Hunter Biden laptop” theme and was described in the source material as a political expression aimed at Donald Trump and his family. Elsewhere, privacy coins remained in focus. glassnode said the privacy sector is the only major crypto segment above its previous market peak, with ZEC highlighted as a major driver. Ether.fi Cash tops $100 million in monthly volume as ETHFI buyback vote nears deadline

Ether.fi’s Cash product reached $100.3 million in monthly spending volume in July, up 85% from $54.3 million in January, according to data cited in a WuBlockchain-republished analysis translated by TechFlow. Monthly active addresses rose to 40,040 from 21,898 over the same period, while spend per address was largely flat, suggesting that a broader active user base drove most of the growth. The report also focused on a proposal published by the ETHFI Foundation on Aug. 30 that would direct contributions from card, swap and staking revenue to weekly ETHFI purchases through CoW Swap. Using July figures as an example, the proposal estimated about $1.33 million per month, or roughly $16 million annualized, before reward distributions. The vote is set to close on Sept. 3 and requires 1 million ETHFI for quorum. The piece argues that Ether.fi is trying to build a self-custodial financial account that combines savings, spending, trading and borrowing. It said the company’s four tracked business lines generated $38.5 million in rolling 30-day annualized revenue as of Aug. 30, with Cash contributing $17.6 million. Even as total tracked revenue fell 22% since the start of the year because of weaker staking and a lower ETH price, Cash grew into a larger share of the mix, rising from 17% of monthly revenue in January to 46% in July.

ChainFeeds research brief: Bonk Guy’s PONS trade, Fomo’s rise, and the case for buying through a bear market

ChainFeeds’ Sept. 5 research brief bundled five separate crypto and Web3 narratives into one daily package, ranging from AI model usage data to meme-coin trading, Ethereum’s institutional setup, and the business mechanics behind Fomo. One of the most closely watched items was a recap of trader theunipcs, better known as Bonk Guy, whose PONS position was estimated to be up about $5 million after he bought near a roughly $6 million market cap and held as the token later approached a $500 million valuation. The brief also cited Pons Labs’ disclosure of $400 million in 24-hour volume and framed the trade as an 83x return on paper. Beyond that, the newsletter highlighted an IOSG Ventures argument that bear markets tend to produce the best crypto investments because mispricing is deepest when sentiment is weakest and real revenue becomes easier to distinguish from narrative. It also translated an essay by Fernando Pertini arguing that Ethereum’s biggest potential short may be the vast pool of institutional portfolios that still hold zero ETH even as major financial firms build products on the network. The final feature examined Fomo’s rapid growth, including user growth to 1.3 million, a reported daily net increase of 30,000 users, protocol revenue milestones, a $75 million Series B led by Index Ventures, and a creator-revenue model that links content, positions, and execution fees in a way the piece said could unsettle larger exchanges.

SEC chair says Clarity Act could pass the Senate this month as Kraken parent Payward delays IPO to Q2 2027

A heavy 24-hour news cycle in crypto brought a mix of regulation, market structure, fundraising and ETF flow updates. SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the long-watched Clarity Act is scheduled for a Sept. 15 Senate vote and said he expects the bill to pass before heading to the president for signature. He also said U.S. regulators are revising old rules to fit the blockchain and crypto-asset era, and noted that the SEC had already sent a custody proposal to the White House. Separately, Kraken parent Payward has reportedly pushed its long-anticipated IPO to as early as the second quarter of 2027. The company had previously paused a multibillion-dollar listing plan, even after filing a confidential S-1 in November 2025 and raising $800 million at a $20 billion valuation. Other stories in the roundup included Thailand’s finalized crypto travel rule taking effect on Feb. 27, 2027, Ondo’s call for U.S. oversight of stock-linked perpetuals, Bybit’s appointment of Sean Ballard to lead derivatives and institutional business, and new ETF data showing a $101 million daily net inflow for U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs while spot ether ETFs posted a $48.08 million net outflow.

RWA Weekly: Singapore consults on new stablecoin rules as LSE explores tokenized UK shares

Real-world asset markets kept expanding in the latest weekly review covering Aug. 28 to Sept. 4, 2026, with on-chain RWA market value rising to $38.76 billion and the number of asset holders reaching 3.298 million, according to RWA.xyz data cited by PANews. Stablecoins also continued to grow, with aggregate market capitalization climbing to $303.21 billion and monthly transfer volume surging 48.83% from a month earlier to $7.17 trillion. On the policy side, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission proposed an overhaul of transfer agent rules that have seen little change since the late 1970s, aiming to address blockchain-based recordkeeping and tokenized securities. In Singapore, the Monetary Authority of Singapore opened a consultation on changes to the Payment Services Act that would create a formal stablecoin framework, including limits on interest payments and a path for limited cross-border recognition. South Korea’s Financial Services Commission, meanwhile, set out a three-stage roadmap for tokenized assets centered on Korea Exchange-led pilots. Corporate activity remained broad. Intercontinental Exchange took a stake in tZERO, the London Stock Exchange said it is working on tokenized UK shares with Payward, and 21 global financial institutions said they plan to form a stablecoin joint venture. Funding announcements also pointed to continued investment in settlement rails, remittances, and new collateral models tied to AI infrastructure.
