Yield Fields Sells Out 3,333 Land NFTs on Robinhood Chain in About 30 Seconds

A farming game that has not yet launched has pulled off one of the louder NFT sales seen in crypto gaming in recent months. On Oct. 13, Yield Fields sold all 3,333 of its Yield Fields Deeds NFTs on Robinhood Chain roughly 30 seconds after the public sale opened. Based on the final public clearing price, the sale was worth about $8.3 million. The project was created by Skarly, a game developer previously involved with Wolf Game and the creator of Onchain Heroes. The Deeds NFTs represent in-game land and were sold through a Dutch auction that was supposed to run for 24 hours, with prices starting at 1 ETH and potentially falling to 0.069 ETH. Instead, demand cleared the sale almost immediately at about 0.999688 ETH per NFT. PANews said the sale reflects more than a single successful mint. It also shows how smaller crypto game teams are using existing communities, NFT issuance, and the attention around newer chains to launch fresh projects. In this case, Robinhood Chain has become the new venue as developers reassess where to build after Abstract, the Ethereum Layer 2 launched by Igloo, announced it would shut down on Dec. 15.

Sophon sets Nov. 25 withdrawal deadline before shutting down its mainnet

Sophon has told users to withdraw assets by Nov. 25 as it prepares to shut down its mainnet and related infrastructure, months after announcing it would abandon its Ethereum layer-2 network and shift operations to Base. The team said any funds left on Sophon Chain after key systems and websites begin going offline on that date could become permanently inaccessible. Users have been asked to withdraw SOPH, ETH, USDC and other assets, and to claim any unclaimed staking or Guardian rewards. Sophon had launched as a zero-knowledge-powered layer-2 focused on consumer use cases such as gaming, entertainment and AI, but in June its developers said the cost of maintaining a standalone blockchain no longer made sense relative to the benefits. The move comes shortly after Abstract, another consumer-focused Ethereum layer-2 built by Pudgy Penguins parent Igloo, said it would also shut down. Cointelegraph previously reported that Sophon raised $60 million through a node sale in 2024 after a separate $10 million funding round.

Weekly project updates: Polymarket rebuilds its protocol, PYTH buybacks go to 100%, and Abstract sets shutdown date

A busy week across crypto projects brought a mix of protocol redesigns, tokenomics changes, ecosystem integrations and one major network wind-down. Polymarket said it will migrate new markets to Protocol V2 on Nov. 2 after a mainnet testing window running from Oct. 5 to Oct. 30. The new design replaces the Gnosis Conditional Token Framework the platform has used since 2019, consolidates position tokens under a single ERC-1155 contract, standardizes pUSD as collateral, and adds a modular architecture that supports multiple market types, multi-source oracle access and native bridging. Elsewhere, Pyth DAO approved a new "100% rule" that directs all external revenue generated by protocol products to open-market PYTH buybacks, up from the previous one-third allocation. Aptos Foundation proposed cutting APT staking rewards to 2.6%, setting a 2.1 billion token supply cap and permanently locking 210 million APT. Arbitrum One launched USDG natively and is weighing a proposal to add 100 million ARB to incentives. Circle expanded BTC-backed USDC borrowing to Aave. On the corporate side, Orca and Loopscale merged into Formation, while consumer crypto network Abstract said it will shut down on Dec. 15, 2026 after Igloo reported losses of tens of millions of dollars over the past two years.

Web3 briefing rounds up TOKEN2049 takeaways, L2 shutdowns and new exchange competition

Foresight News published a roundup of crypto stories it said readers should not miss over the past two weeks, spanning conference takeaways, governance disputes, Layer 2 shutdowns and project updates. The list starts with discussions from Singapore’s TOKEN2049, where the conversation appeared to shift away from broad narratives and toward user numbers, revenue and profit distribution. It also highlights Vitalik Buterin’s 32-chapter sci-fi novel "Snowmoon," Robinhood’s push against Coinbase through Robinhood Chain, and the controversy around the Compound Foundation’s handling of 8.42 million DAI in v2 reserves. The second section focuses on projects that are shutting down, including Blast and Abstract, both of which were described as struggling to cover infrastructure and operating costs. The final section turns to product strategy and protocol direction, covering OKX’s move into tokenized stocks and AI trading tools, Gitcoin’s planned relaunch under the name Techne, the post-quantum chain Quantus, and Lido’s proposed lending protocol, Lido Lend. Across the collection, the common thread is a market placing more weight on sustainable demand, operating economics and product execution.

OKX and NYSE Parent Back Tokenized U.S. Stocks Push as Blast and Abstract Shut Down

OKX and a joint venture with the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange have filed an application with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to launch a tokenized U.S. equities trading platform on X Layer, OKX’s layer-2 network. The move puts on-chain stock trading back in focus at a time when two once high-profile L2 projects from the NFT sector, Blast and Abstract, have announced they are shutting down. The Foresight article argues that both Blast and Abstract entered the market with strong attention, capital inflows and recognizable teams, yet still failed to build applications and business models that could generate lasting revenue. In that view, the problem is not limited to those two projects but speaks to a broader challenge facing layer-2 networks: technical infrastructure alone does not guarantee sustainable cash flow. The piece also points to Robinhood Chain as a key case to watch. Citing DefiLlama, it says the chain’s trading volume peaked at $3.5 billion on Sept. 4 on the back of meme coin and stock-token trading pairs, but fell to about $1 billion a month later. That drop, if tied to fading meme coin sentiment, would suggest that emotion still drives much of the current activity in tokenized stock trading, while durable demand remains unproven.

PANews Weekly Picks: Abstract to Shut Down, Starknet Eyes L1 Shift, Trump Made 500+ Securities Trades in August

PANews has published its weekly roundup, pulling together a broad set of crypto, macro and policy stories from the past week. The selection spans AI adoption, DeFi, market structure, security incidents, project strategy shifts and regulatory developments. Among the most closely watched items, Igloo said Abstract, its Ethereum Layer 2 network under the Pudgy Penguins umbrella, will shut down on Dec. 15 after failing to become self-sustaining despite 400,000 users and 4 million wallets. Starknet was also highlighted for considering a move from Ethereum L2 to an independent Layer 1, with quantum resistance cited as part of the rationale and 2027 named as the target timeline. The plan has already triggered debate over security costs, ecosystem liquidity and the use of a quantum narrative. The roundup also notes that Donald Trump completed more than 500 securities trades in August, including a Meta stock purchase worth as much as $25 million and an investment in SpaceX debt products. Elsewhere, PANews featured reports on a16z’s view that the top 1% of users drive nearly all token demand growth in AI, a September crypto security toll of about $730 million, French lawmakers’ review of 10 crypto amendments, and a range of market calls on Bitcoin, U.S. Treasuries, gold and RWA-related infrastructure.

Abstract ETH withdrawals hinge on operators before Dec. 15 shutdown

ETH withdrawals from Abstract remain dependent on operators ahead of the network’s Dec. 15 shutdown, according to a brief report from TheDefiant. Citing data from L2BEAT, the report said roughly $17.1 million in ETH has been canonically bridged to the network. Under the project’s wind-down plan, there is no independent exit mechanism available after Dec. 15. That leaves users reliant on operator handling for withdrawals tied to those bridged assets. The report focuses on the withdrawal path for canonically bridged ETH and the lack of a trust-minimized exit once the shutdown date passes.

Abstract to Shut Down on Dec. 15, Reviving Debate Over an L2 Washout

Abstract, the Layer 2 network backed by Pudgy Penguins parent company Igloo, said it will shut down on Dec. 15 after operating for nearly two years. The closure has split the crypto community. Supporters argue the team chose to wind the project down without launching a token generation event, avoiding the kind of last-minute fundraising some users associate with struggling L2 projects. Critics counter that users had already spent significant time and money participating in the ecosystem, while hopes for a future token have now been wiped out. The original report points to several reasons behind the shutdown. Although Abstract said it drew more than 400,000 users, hosted over 144 applications and processed more than 325 million onchain transactions, its DeFi footprint remained small. DefiLlama data cited in the report put its total value locked at about $5.6 million, with a 24-hour drop of roughly 40%, while stablecoin market cap fell nearly 60% over seven days to around $4.7 million. The article also argues that institutional participation was limited, operating costs were high, and product-market fit became harder to justify as market demand shifted toward networks tied more directly to liquidity, traditional finance and fee generation. Community reactions ranged from praise for a "respectful" shutdown to anger from users who said they had invested months of work and thousands of dollars into the network.
