Apple’s camera-equipped AirPods are still slated for 2027, not the 2026 lineup

A leaked demo video inside an Apple developer software test build has fueled speculation that AirPods with cameras could arrive earlier than expected. But according to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, the AI-focused wearable is still targeted for a 2027 release and is not part of Apple’s 2026 product schedule. Apple had reportedly moved the project forward in early 2026 and started internal testing in the spring, with an initial plan to unveil the device in 2026. That timeline slipped after the company ran into problems on two fronts during the summer: supply-chain preparation for mass production and software integration. The product is expected to use Apple’s Visual Intelligence features, with built-in cameras scanning and interpreting the surrounding environment to feed contextual data to Siri and other AI tools. The leak, which appeared in a Mac software test update for developers, included a demonstration of the new AirPods taking photos and spread quickly online just ahead of Apple’s September iPhone event, prompting talk of an earlier debut. Sources cited in the report rejected that idea. The device has also drawn privacy criticism, including the mocking nickname “pervertpods.” People familiar with the product said the built-in camera is a low-resolution sensor designed for environmental awareness rather than photography or video recording.

Treasury doubles long-bond buybacks, sending gold and Bitcoin higher as AI trades unwind

The U.S. Treasury jolted markets by doubling liquidity buybacks for 10- to 30-year Treasurys from a maximum of $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation, a move that helped pull long-dated yields lower after a sharp bond selloff. The 30-year yield fell by more than 9 basis points on the day, while the 10-year yield slipped back toward 4.64%. The dollar index dropped 0.86% to 98.69, spot gold surged through $4,500 an ounce, and Bitcoin briefly climbed to $70,064, its highest level since June 2, according to OKX data. At the same time, minutes from the Federal Reserve’s July meeting struck a hawkish tone. Rates were left unchanged at 3.5% to 3.75%, but three voters — Logan, Hammack and Kashkari — dissented in favor of an immediate 25-basis-point hike. The minutes also showed officials discussing AI-driven inflation pressure in chips, steel, power and data-center materials, while warning that aggressive borrowing and overly optimistic profit assumptions could leave AI valuations vulnerable. Equity leadership shifted sharply. A successful Phase 3 personalized mRNA cancer vaccine trial from Moderna and Merck ignited a rally in drugmakers and biotech, while semiconductor, storage and optical-networking names tied to AI momentum selling continued to weaken. Crypto-linked stocks also jumped, helped by stronger Bitcoin prices and comments tied to Hyperliquid’s possible compliant U.S. entry.

Guotou Securities frames tech-stock investing around an N-shaped cycle

TechFlowPost published a market analysis by Chaoxiang Research that highlighted a recent strategy report from Guotou Securities, titled Investment Methodology for the Technology Industry. The report argues that tech stocks are difficult to value with the same discounted cash flow approach often used for mature companies because technological progress can shift abruptly after a catalyst event. It says returns in the sector come from trading distinct phases rather than simply holding through the full cycle. The core framework is an N-shaped pattern with four points: A, B, C and D. The A-to-B move is the first rally, driven by narrative and total addressable market expectations. The B-to-C phase is the pullback, where many tech names fail to recover. The C-to-D phase is the second rally, led by earnings growth and fast penetration. The report calls point C the most important entry zone for institutional investors and says it can be identified through three conditions appearing together: large-company capital spending, a breakout hit product and order flow reaching the supply chain. For exits, the report uses an M-top framework, watching macro slowdown, price wars on the supply side and cuts in capital spending on the demand side. It also says U.S. stock mapping has been an important historical method, with supply-chain mapping seen as especially effective.

Apple posts its strongest June-quarter results, but AI doubts overshadow the $5 trillion milestone

Apple delivered what Tim Cook called the company’s best-ever June quarter, reporting $109.417 billion in revenue for calendar Q2 2026, up 16.4% year over year, with net profit rising 27% to $29.789 billion and overall gross margin reaching 50.1%. iPhone revenue climbed 21.7% to $54.25 billion, Mac revenue jumped 28.7% to $10.35 billion, and every geographic segment posted double-digit growth. Yet investors focused less on the earnings beat than on Apple’s weaker position in artificial intelligence. The stock fell 1.41% in regular trading on the day of the release and dropped more than 8% after hours, even after briefly touching a record $342.89 on July 29 and pushing Apple’s market capitalization above $5 trillion. The contrast was sharp: Microsoft rose 15.51% the same day, Micron gained 18.36%, AMD climbed 13%, Nvidia added 2.65%, and Amazon jumped more than 9% after hours. The report also highlighted Apple’s shifting AI strategy, including a multiyear partnership with Google around Gemini-based foundation models, the launch of a new Siri AI at WWDC, and separate China arrangements involving Alibaba’s Qwen and cooperation with Baidu. At the same time, Apple faces four near-term pressures: a high iPhone 17 comparison base, rising memory and storage costs, intensifying AI phone competition, and a CEO transition from Cook to hardware chief John Ternus on Sept. 1.
