A-share priva2026-10-13 04:20:24A-share private placements raised 465.49 billion yuan in the first three quarters as asset injections and tech expansion drove deal flowChina’s A-share private placement market remained active through the first three quarters of 2026, even as fundraising totals fell from a high base set a year earlier. Wind data cited in the report show 175 completed private placements raising 465.49 billion yuan, accounting for 62% of all equity financing. The market split into two clear tracks: large state-backed asset injection deals, including transactions involving Hongqiao Holdings, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. and China Shenhua, and cash placements aimed at semiconductor capacity, hardware equipment, smart vehicles and new energy projects. The report says asset financing made up only 29 of 170 completed share issuance cases but contributed 207.69 billion yuan, nearly half of the total raised by those companies. Cash placements, by contrast, were more concentrated in industrial expansion and R&D. Semiconductor and hardware equipment companies together raised 116.6 billion yuan in cash placements in the first nine months. Post-deal stock performance also diverged sharply. As of Oct. 8, asset-backed placements outperformed cash deals, with a median gain of 42.5% versus 5.7%. The piece argues that investors are no longer looking only at issuance discounts. Asset quality, project returns and pricing have become more important in how the market values completed placements.380
