The footage comes from a segment aired on Fuji Television’s 2013 "FNS 27-Hour TV" special and features comedian Koji Kato in his recurring "Bakuretsu Otosan" role interacting with an AKB48 member. The clip now circulating online shows a short stretch of the segment, including a kick to the face, and has been widely condemned by users who described it as abusive and degrading. The renewed outrage has unfolded even though Japan’s Broadcasting Ethics & Program Improvement Organization, or BPO, reviewed the segment in 2013 after receiving a large number of complaints.
