Toady Hawk takes CEO role at Clanker to lead platform relaunch

Toady Hawk, a member of the Base Security Council, said on Nov. 3 that he has accepted the CEO role at token launch platform Clanker and will help lead its relaunch. In his post on X, Hawk said Clanker is now managed by Mask Network, which also manages Firefly and Lens Protocol, and that the group is already working with the engineering team on the restart, with more details to come. Hawk also outlined Clanker’s history and the issues it has faced. He said the platform was born on Farcaster about two years ago, where users could launch a token by posting in the feed and tagging the platform. It later expanded to X and at one point became the highest-volume token issuance platform on Base, with communities including BNKR, DRB, and FAIR. He added that Clanker later went through early founder disputes, a sale to Farcaster, and a handoff to Neynar, with multiple transitions affecting the platform over roughly the past 18 months. As for next steps, Hawk said his priorities include refreshing the brand while keeping Clanker’s original character, improving external communication, and working with engineers to bring features in line with current leading launch platforms, including stock trading pairs, support for new chains, and an unnamed day-one support feature.

Farcaster changes hands again as Network School acquires it from Neynar

Decentralized social network Farcaster has changed owners for the second time this year, with Balaji Srinivasan’s Network School acquiring the platform from Neynar for an undisclosed sum. Neynar co-founder Rish said on Thursday that after weighing multiple acquisition offers, the company decided to transfer the Farcaster app, protocol codebase, and related products because the project’s next phase requires a different operating model. Rish and fellow co-founder Manan are set to leave, while the rest of Neynar’s staff will join Network School and continue building Farcaster. Neynar itself had acquired Farcaster from original developer Merkle Manufactory in January, in a deal that also included token launch platform Clanker. Rish’s statement did not say what will happen to Clanker, though GM Farcaster hosts Adrienne and NourishProf said during a Thursday livestream that Rish is considering separating Clanker and seeking another buyer. An in-app notice also said Farcaster will be renamed the “Network State Protocol,” with a goal of building a network of voluntarily joined digital societies that would eventually take shape in the physical world. Users will be asked to accept or reject a “social smart contract,” and those who accept will receive an onchain access NFT as proof.

Farcaster heads for a second handoff in a year as Neynar looks for a new team

Farcaster is back on the market less than a year after its first ownership transfer. On Aug. 17, Neynar co-founder rish said the company is looking for a new team to take over the Farcaster protocol, the official app, and token-launch platform Clanker. He added that Neynar will return its remaining funds and then disband the team. The move comes only seven months after Neynar took over the project from Farcaster’s original builder, Merkle Manufactory. In January, Merkle transferred the protocol contracts, codebase, official app, and Clanker to Neynar, while returning the full $180 million it had raised to investors. Founders Dan Romero and Varun Srinivasan then joined Tempo, a payments chain described in the source as a project incubated by Stripe and Paradigm. The business backdrop has shifted sharply since then. According to DefiLlama data cited in the article, Farcaster ecosystem protocol fees fell from $35.43 million in the first quarter of 2026 to $4.67 million in the second quarter, then to $377,000 from July 1 to Aug. 17, with only $4,001 generated in the past 24 hours. The article also said CLANKER token buybacks funded by fees have stopped. rish said operating the full-stack social network costs about $100,000 a month, peaking at $500,000, but argued the exit was not a financial decision.
