1inch co-founder Anton Bukov says he was fired, exits operations and starts Second Tier

Anton Bukov, co-founder of DeFi aggregator 1inch, said on X that he has stepped away from the company’s operations and described his departure as being “fired” in November last year. 1inch responded with its own statement, saying Bukov had not been actively involved in any organizational work related to the company since December 2025. While the two sides differ slightly on timing, both accounts point to the same outcome: Bukov is no longer part of 1inch’s day-to-day operations. Bukov said he had led 1inch’s operations for more than seven years before leaving at the end of last year. He also said he still retains his status as co-founder and holds 50% equity in the company. His focus has now shifted to a new venture called Second Tier, which he said will target “the next layer of onchain finance,” though he did not share additional details. Sergej Kunz, 1inch’s other co-founder and a developer, said Bukov’s departure would not interrupt the infrastructure and systems of the 1inch Network. Founded in May 2019, 1inch has grown from an early DEX routing aggregator into a broader DeFi ecosystem spanning multiple chains, with products including Fusion and the shared liquidity protocol Aqua.

1inch Co-Founder Anton Bukov Says He Was Fired and Is Building New Infrastructure Startup Second Tier

Anton Bukov, co-founder of decentralized exchange aggregator 1inch, said he was fired by the company in late November 2025 and is now building a new infrastructure startup called Second Tier. In a statement shared with The Defiant before a planned public announcement, Bukov said he remains a 1inch co-founder and still owns 50% of the company, but no longer participates in operations. He also said he has no role in, and no oversight of, the protocol’s product architecture or security, the technical areas he previously led. 1inch had not responded to a request for comment by press time, and it has not publicly confirmed Bukov’s characterization of the split. Bukov described the separation as a mature founder split centered on strategic direction, communication, and leadership approach rather than any single decision. He said Second Tier is not a DEX, not a DEX aggregator, and is not being built against 1inch. The new company has not disclosed funding, team members, or product details. The split comes as 1inch has been pushing deeper into institutional and traditional finance, including an October integration of its swap engine into the Coinbase app and a rebrand that signaled broader financial-market ambitions.
