India's REC to Issue Up to Rs 5 Billion Tokenized Bonds

India's state-owned power financier REC Ltd has launched a tender for tokenized corporate bonds worth up to 5 billion rupees ($53 million), combining DLT with the central bank's wholesale CBDC for institutional investors. The bonds have a base size of 1 billion rupees, with a greenshoe option to increase to 5 billion rupees, maturing in May 2028. Settlement uses SEBI's DEMAT 2.0 e-wallet and atomic settlement via wholesale CBDC, on a permissioned environment.

AMC Token Dispute Expands Into a Broader Fight Over Which Tokenized Stock Structure Should Prevail

A public clash between AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron and Robinhood over tokenized AMC shares has widened into a much larger industry debate over how tokenized stocks should be built. At the center of the dispute are three competing structures: Robinhood’s offshore debt-style stock tokens that give users economic exposure but no claim on the referenced issuer; custodial 1:1 models used by firms such as Ondo, xStocks and Dinari, where regulated intermediaries hold the underlying shares; and issuer-native designs from Securitize and Superstate, where a company’s own registered shares are recorded onchain. The SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance outlined these categories in a Jan. 28 statement, and the choice of structure affects both the securities rules that apply and what investors may be able to claim if an intermediary fails. The argument intensified Friday as Dinari co-founder Gabriel Otte criticized synthetic products, Uniswap founder Hayden Adams defended programmability and 24/7 access, and Securitize CEO Carlos Domingo backed issuer-controlled tokenization. The fight is unfolding as tokenized stocks reach $2.91 billion across 2.67 million holders, according to rwa.xyz, with Ondo leading the sector and Robinhood gaining trading traction through activity on Robinhood Chain. Lawyers, transfer agents and market structure participants have also entered the discussion, turning what began as an AMC controversy into a live test of investor rights, execution quality, supply mechanics and regulatory design for onchain equities.

doValue completes €10 million on-chain NPL securitization in Italy

European credit management firm doValue and fintech company Weltix have completed what was described as the first blockchain-based digital securities issuance tied to a non-performing loan, or NPL, securitization, with a deal size of €10 million. The transaction was carried out under Italy’s Fintech Decree regulatory framework. Weltix handled the DLT registry, while doValue was responsible for the overall transaction structure. The report stressed that the issuance did not turn non-performing loans into a speculative cryptocurrency product. Instead, it moved the issuance, recording and management of the securities onto blockchain infrastructure in an effort to reduce intermediaries and cut operating costs. doValue is a major European credit manager and NPL servicer, with operations spanning distressed loan servicing and securitization. Weltix is a fintech company authorized by Italian securities regulator Consob and focuses on DLT-based digital asset infrastructure. According to the report, the deal marks blockchain’s entry into Europe’s traditionally intermediary-heavy NPL securitization market, with native digital securities expected to replace paper-based processes, shorten settlement times and improve transaction transparency.

South Korea sets three-phase tokenized securities roadmap, starting with bonds, funds and unlisted shares

South Korea’s Financial Services Commission has released a three-phase roadmap for tokenized securities, laying out how the market will open and under what legal conditions. The plan ties the rollout to amendments to the Electronic Securities Act and the Capital Markets Act, which were passed on Jan. 15, 2026 and are scheduled to take effect on Feb. 4, 2027. Under the framework, tokenized securities will be treated as a third issuance format alongside paper and electronic securities, while remaining subject to existing rules on registration, disclosure and intermediary licensing. The first phase begins in February 2027 and focuses on institutional and private markets. Initial asset classes include private money market funds for institutional investors, privately placed corporate bonds, unlisted equity using a trust beneficiary certificate structure, and certain publicly issued fractional investment products. The roadmap also spells out entry rules for brokers, non-financial firms and OTC platforms, including capital thresholds and retail purchase caps. Later phases would move into publicly offered securities and, eventually, on-chain settlement using stablecoins. The timing of those stages depends on system stability, technical readiness, interoperability across distributed ledgers and progress on South Korea’s stablecoin legislation. The roadmap stands in contrast to the faster, market-led tokenization model described in the Robinhood case cited in the source material.

RWA Weekly: Singapore consults on new stablecoin rules as LSE explores tokenized UK shares

Real-world asset markets kept expanding in the latest weekly review covering Aug. 28 to Sept. 4, 2026, with on-chain RWA market value rising to $38.76 billion and the number of asset holders reaching 3.298 million, according to RWA.xyz data cited by PANews. Stablecoins also continued to grow, with aggregate market capitalization climbing to $303.21 billion and monthly transfer volume surging 48.83% from a month earlier to $7.17 trillion. On the policy side, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission proposed an overhaul of transfer agent rules that have seen little change since the late 1970s, aiming to address blockchain-based recordkeeping and tokenized securities. In Singapore, the Monetary Authority of Singapore opened a consultation on changes to the Payment Services Act that would create a formal stablecoin framework, including limits on interest payments and a path for limited cross-border recognition. South Korea’s Financial Services Commission, meanwhile, set out a three-stage roadmap for tokenized assets centered on Korea Exchange-led pilots. Corporate activity remained broad. Intercontinental Exchange took a stake in tZERO, the London Stock Exchange said it is working on tokenized UK shares with Payward, and 21 global financial institutions said they plan to form a stablecoin joint venture. Funding announcements also pointed to continued investment in settlement rails, remittances, and new collateral models tied to AI infrastructure.

Securitize Partners with Socios.com to Tokenize Minority Equity in Sports Clubs

Securitize and Socios.com have announced a partnership under which Securitize will provide regulated securities issuance, investor onboarding, and ownership record-keeping for Socios.com's plan to sell tokenized minority stakes in professional sports clubs. The token product, branded as Socios Equity Tokens, will be subject to applicable securities laws, league requirements, club approvals, and jurisdictional restrictions. Fan Tokens and Socios Equity Tokens will remain separate products, with the former for engagement and utility and the latter for regulated financial stakes. The initiative is expected to be Securitize's first tokenization project under the EU DLT Pilot Regime, which only accepts issuers with a market cap below €500 million. Securitize received authorization from Spain's CNMV for a DLT trading and settlement system in November 2025.

UK to give Bank of England a new mandate to support digital currency innovation

The UK government plans to assign the Bank of England a new mandate focused on supporting digital currency and payments innovation, while keeping financial stability as the central bank’s primary objective. The added remit would serve as a secondary objective rather than replace or weaken the bank’s core mission. City Minister Lucy Rigby said tokenization and distributed ledger technology have the potential to reshape global financial markets. According to the report, the new objective is intended to back the Bank of England’s ongoing work on payments and digital finance innovation, while helping the UK maintain its position as a leading global financial services center. The move comes after the UK and the US formed a joint working group to advance stablecoin adoption. The report also noted that in June, the Bank of England dropped an earlier proposal that would have capped the amount of stablecoins held by individuals and businesses. Deputy Governor Sarah Breeden welcomed the new responsibility.

Taurus links digital asset platforms to Swift’s blockchain ledger as first client go-lives near

Taurus, a digital asset infrastructure provider, has connected its tokenization and custody platforms to Swift’s blockchain-based ledger, opening a path for clients to plug existing digital asset systems into payment flows built on bank-issued tokenized deposits. The company said the first institutional client integrations are expected to go live within days, while the first distributed ledger technology, or DLT, transactions routed through Taurus platforms are expected within weeks. Swift said in July that the ledger was ready for initial use, with 17 banks across six continents preparing live pilots using tokenized deposits. Since then, Standard Chartered and HSBC have completed the ledger’s first live cross-border transaction, linking their separate tokenized deposit systems. Swift’s ledger is designed as an orchestration layer for 24/7 cross-border payments, coordinating transfers between institutions before final settlement takes place through existing mechanisms such as real-time gross settlement systems.
