Sui pitches itself as a global payments network, with stablecoins and AI agents at the center

Mysten Labs co-founder and chief product officer Adeniyi Abiodun used a WuBlockchain podcast appearance to sharpen Sui’s positioning beyond the usual "high-performance Layer 1" label. His argument was straightforward: Sui wants to be the infrastructure layer for global money movement, not just another general-purpose chain. He tied that thesis to horizontal scalability, predictable fees under growing demand, and a broader stack that includes Walrus, DeepBook and Seal. In his view, the biggest near-term driver is stablecoin payments, while the larger structural opportunity sits in AI agent-driven activity, where automated systems may need high-frequency, low-cost and micropayment-style settlement that traditional payment rails struggle to handle. The conversation also touched on Sui’s total value locked, which he said rose to about $4 billion in late 2025 before falling back to roughly $1 billion, a move he attributed mainly to broader market conditions. Abiodun said Sui’s stablecoin volume has exceeded $1 trillion since August 2025, and pointed to institutional partnerships, ecosystem support, token supply mechanics, and validator coordination during the Cetus incident as other pieces of Sui’s long-term story. He also said Mysten Labs and the Sui Foundation cannot directly freeze addresses or stop transactions, describing validator action as a collective process across more than 100 globally distributed validators.
