Dragonfly’s Haseeb Qureshi says Hyperliquid is expanding the market, not just taking share from CEXs

Dragonfly managing partner Haseeb Qureshi said Hyperliquid’s relationship with centralized exchanges is not a simple zero-sum fight for market share. Speaking in a recent Space, he said user overlap between Hyperliquid and major CEXs appears limited, with many users turning to Hyperliquid because they cannot complete KYC requirements or cannot easily access mainstream platforms in their home countries. In that sense, he described Hyperliquid as filling a gap in market access rather than merely pulling volume away from incumbents. Qureshi said exchanges including Binance have already reacted to the competitive pressure, but added that Hyperliquid’s market share growth has not been matched by a decline in centralized exchange trading volume. His reading is that both sides are growing, which points to an expanding market boundary rather than a one-way migration of activity from CEXs to Hyperliquid. He also said pre-IPO equities already show strong demand and product-market fit, while Trade.xyz remains early but is making solid progress. On the broader market, Qureshi said he is constructive on crypto over the next 6 to 12 months. Looking further out to 2030, he argued that “crypto VC” will still exist, though the label may fade as crypto becomes embedded across fintech, digital banking, consumer products, stablecoin infrastructure, and even AI-related companies.
