Star lays out OKX’s next-step plan in Singapore: from crypto exchange to global fintech platform

At the OKX NOW Global Product and Ecosystem Conference in Singapore on Oct. 6, OKX founder and CEO Star used his opening keynote to describe how the company sees the next phase of finance taking shape. His argument centered on the convergence of the internet, crypto technology and AI, which he said is pushing financial services toward a new model built for real-time, global and always-on use. Star said OKX, which began 13 years ago as a crypto exchange, is no longer framing itself only through that identity. He described a broader platform strategy that spans how users hold money, make payments, invest across asset classes and access wealth management tools. In his view, younger users may not rely on the same banking channels that defined earlier generations, and financial products will need to adapt accordingly. He also pointed to OKX’s regulatory buildout, saying the company has obtained licenses or is regulated in markets including the U.S., Europe, the UAE, Singapore, Australia, Brazil and Turkey. On operations, Star said AI has already become core infrastructure inside OKX: about 95% of engineering pull requests now rely mainly on AI workflows, and the company spent $10 million on large-model services last month alone. He also said large global financial institutions, including ICE and the New York Stock Exchange, Standard Chartered, Ripple and Circle, are making equity investments in OKX.

OKX CEO Star lays out long-term vision, AI buildout and a 10-year view of crypto finance

At the OKX NOW global product and ecosystem conference in Singapore on Oct. 6, OKX founder and CEO Star used his opening speech to argue that the company has moved beyond the narrow definition of a crypto exchange and is building toward a broader global fintech platform. He framed that shift around the convergence of three technologies: the internet for instant information flow, crypto for programmable and borderless value transfer, and AI for intelligence at scale. Star said the current financial system still relies heavily on outdated infrastructure, leaving users with high payment and remittance costs, limited market hours and uneven access to wealth services. He described crypto’s path from an early experiment led by engineers and cryptographers, through exchange-led market formation, the ICO and DeFi era, and a later compliance-focused phase, before entering what he called a mainstream financial stage from 2025. He also outlined four pillars for next-generation financial services: how users hold funds, how they make payments, how they invest across asset classes and how AI can expand access to wealth management. On operations, Star said AI is already embedded across OKX, from engineering and customer support to fraud detection and compliance, adding that about 95% of engineering pull requests now rely primarily on AI workflows. He also disclosed that OKX’s bill to large-model providers reached $10 million last month.
