Anthropic’s $35 Billion Compute Deal Reaches Hut 8’s Texas Campus

Anthropic has agreed to buy $35 billion in computing capacity from Lambda, an AI cloud company backed by Nvidia, with part of that capacity tied to Hut 8’s Beacon Point campus in Nueces County, Texas. The arrangement, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, adds another high-profile example to the growing shift by listed Bitcoin miners into AI and high-performance computing infrastructure. At the center of the story is Beacon Point, where Hut 8 had previously disclosed two long-term leases without naming the tenant. CoinDesk’s compilation of the site’s details shows two 15-year leases with a combined contract value of $19.6 billion, 704 megawatts of IT capacity, a 525-acre footprint, access to as much as 1 gigawatt of power, and an existing grid connection. Hut 8 has not confirmed how much of that 704 MW is directly tied to the Anthropic-Lambda agreement. The report also puts Hut 8 in a wider industry pattern. CoinDesk said in March 2026 that public Bitcoin miners had signed more than $70 billion in AI and HPC agreements. Peer examples cited include TeraWulf, Bitdeer, and IREN, each pursuing hybrid strategies that keep mining operations in place while allocating power and data center capacity to AI customers.
