Musk Says Anthropic Leads AI and Likely Holds a Stronger Unreleased Model

Elon Musk said Anthropic is currently the frontrunner in AI and argued that the company almost certainly has a model stronger than the versions it has already released, one that could be launched at any time. He made the remarks in a long-form interview with Economist editor-in-chief Zanny Minton Beddoes, recorded on July 20 at Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory and aired on July 23. Musk also laid out a concrete AI governance proposal that differs sharply from the framework recently advanced by Google DeepMind CEO Hassabis. His plan calls for top AI firms to hold regular calls every one to two weeks to discuss safety and cybersecurity, and to let rivals test clearly more powerful frontier models through APIs for one to two weeks before release. Government intervention, in his view, should come only if a company is warned about risks and refuses to address them. During the interview, Musk also revisited his criticism of OpenAI, praised Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei in personal terms, discussed the Mythos export-control episode, and repeated a series of long-range predictions on AI capability, work, money, and the broader economy.

Ondo drops its L1 plan, Europe’s banks launch RL1, and CME sues the CFTC as institutions pull trading infrastructure away from public chains

Three developments that surfaced on July 28 point to the same structural shift in institutional crypto infrastructure. Ondo Finance, a major tokenized real-world asset issuer, moved away from the idea of using a public blockchain as the core venue for institutional trade execution and instead backed a model that splits execution from settlement. In Europe, 10 founding banks launched RL1, a regulated and permissioned DLT network organized as a cooperative in Luxembourg, with equal governance rights for members. In the US, CME Group challenged the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in court over its decision to allow Kalshi and Coinbase to list crypto perpetual futures. Taken together, the cases suggest that institutions are not rejecting blockchain technology. They are narrowing where and how they want to use it. Execution is moving toward private or permissioned systems built for speed, privacy, and control. Governance remains with regulated entities, cooperatives, or incumbent exchange operators. Public blockchains, in this framework, are increasingly treated as settlement infrastructure rather than full-stack financial rails. According to the article, this has consequences for RWA issuers, trading venues, public L1 and L2 networks, and regional competition in Asia. The report, citing EXIO Research, argues that the long-running narrative that institutions would migrate directly onto public chains now faces a serious challenge.

Ondo Finance unit wins SEC and FINRA approval for tokenized securities offering

Ondo Finance’s broker-dealer subsidiary, Oasis Pro Markets, has received authorization from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority to offer tokenized stock and fund products to U.S. investors. The approval puts a regulated framework around part of the real-world asset, or RWA, tokenization business. For Ondo Finance, which is widely known as a leading project in the RWA segment, the development adds a compliance milestone tied to bringing traditional financial assets onto blockchain-based rails. The item was reported by Techub News and cited Cointelegraph as the source.

Ondo’s Oasis Pro Markets Wins Clearance to Offer Tokenized Stocks in the U.S.

Ondo Finance said its broker-dealer subsidiary, Oasis Pro Markets, has received regulatory authorization to offer tokenized equities and fund products to U.S. investors under the oversight of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. According to the company’s official X post on Thursday, the approval covers tokenized publicly traded stocks, including IPO-related offerings, as well as fund interests such as ETFs, mutual funds, and index funds. Ondo said distribution would take place through OTC retail channels, underwritten primary offerings, private placements, and other activities. The approval expands Ondo’s U.S. tokenization business beyond its earlier focus on Treasury products, while tokenized stocks had previously been sold outside the country. The company also said Oasis Pro Markets can support omnibus account structures through existing broker-dealer and advisory channels, a setup it said could allow institutional investors, registered investment advisors, and retirement accounts to access tokenized securities through their current brokers. Ondo separately said its Ondo Stocks unit has generated more than $20 billion in cumulative volume and over $1 billion in tokenized stocks total value locked, though the company did not provide an independent basis for its claim that the platform is larger than all competitors combined. It did not give a launch date for the U.S. rollout.
