SoFi plugs into Kraken as bank settlement, stablecoins and trading liquidity move onto shared rails

SoFi Technologies and Payward, the parent company of Kraken, have announced a strategic partnership built around direct infrastructure integration rather than parallel expansion into each other’s core business. Under the agreement, Payward will join the SoFi Exchange Network, giving it access to 24/7 real-time U.S. dollar settlement. Kraken will also list SoFiUSD, a stablecoin issued directly by SoFi Bank, N.A., while SoFi will route part of its crypto order flow through Kraken Prime to improve execution for the 15.8 million users of the SoFi app through smart order routing across multiple venues. Kraken’s institutional clients, in turn, will gain access to SoFi’s Big Business Banking services, and the two sides said they plan to expand into qualified custody later on. The arrangement ties together bank deposits, on-chain settlement assets and exchange liquidity in a single framework. It also points to a broader shift in digital asset infrastructure: banks and crypto platforms are no longer trying to become each other, but are instead linking the systems they have already spent years building.

WebX 2026 points to three themes: tokenization at scale, AI on-chain finance, and Japan’s institutional turn

WebX 2026, held in Tokyo on July 13 and 14, centered on three recurring themes across seven sessions over two days. Speakers largely agreed that tokenization has moved past the question of whether it works and into a new phase where liquidity and real use cases matter more. JPMorgan’s Onyx was cited as processing billions of dollars a day, while Franklin Templeton was described as operating across 10 public blockchains for 10 years. A16z framed the market gap with a comparison between roughly $15 billion in tokenized money market funds and Treasury bills and a $13 trillion traditional liquidity market, putting penetration below 0.2%. Ondo’s tokenized stock platform, meanwhile, has surpassed $1 billion in TVL. Another thread at the event focused on AI and on-chain finance, with public blockchains described as neutral settlement layers that can impose enforceable rules on AI agents through smart contracts. Japan formed the third major theme, with discussions repeatedly returning to a possible crypto ETF opening as early as 2028, plans to bring the Japanese government bond repo market on-chain, and the role of tax policy and distribution, including the current top 55% tax rate and whether crypto products could be included in NISA-style long-term investment frameworks.

JPMorgan commits $750 billion to housing and community development by 2035

JPMorgan said on March 31 that it is launching the "American Dream" plan, with a commitment to direct $750 billion toward housing and community development by 2035. The bank said the new target is more than $200 billion above its previous commitment. CEO Jamie Dimon is leading the initiative, which covers six areas including small-business lending, housing affordability, and financial health. As part of the plan, $80 billion has been earmarked for small-business lending over the next decade. JPMorgan said the effort will expand into high-need markets including Alabama, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia. Combined with the bank’s earlier $1.5 trillion "security and resilience" plan, its total community investment commitments now exceed $2 trillion. According to CryptoBriefing, the new initiative does not include cryptocurrency or blockchain technology, even though JPMorgan has previously developed blockchain experiments such as the Onyx platform and JPM Coin.

V12 raises $10 million seed round after disclosing nine-figure blockchain vulnerability find

Security AI agent V12 said on July 30 that it has raised a $10 million seed round led by Electric Capital, with participation from on-chain investigator ZachXBT, white-hat researcher samczsun, Cognition co-founder Walden Yan, and more than 30 individual backers tied to security research and firms including Anchorage Digital, Avalanche, OpenAI, Jupiter, and Mysten Labs. In the same announcement, V12 said it had independently found a vulnerability on a major public blockchain earlier this month that put more than $100 million at risk and earned a $2.5 million bounty, which it described as the largest bug bounty ever paid to an AI agent. The issue has already been fixed in coordination with the project team. The company traces its roots to Zellic and the CTF team perfect blue, and it used the funding announcement to make a broader case: AI is driving the cost of vulnerability discovery sharply lower, while existing disclosure and bounty systems were built for an era when offensive security talent was scarce. V12 also said its current product is a self-serve web app with a command-line tool, a 7-day $200 free credit for new users, and a usage-based subscription model, with no token or airdrop plan mentioned on its official blog or product pages as of publication.
