Zcash Surged About 19x in a Year, Yet Its Market Cap Remains Below 1% of Bitcoin

Privacy coin Zcash has climbed roughly 19x over the last year, yet its market capitalization still remains below 1% of Bitcoin's. According to Grayscale, the token's focus on financial privacy, cybersecurity development, and cross-chain connectivity could push its market share higher. Current figures put Bitcoin's market cap at $1.56 trillion and Zcash's at $13.74 billion, equal to about 0.88% of Bitcoin's total, or a roughly 114x gap between the two. Grayscale estimates that if ZEC's market cap reached 2%, 5%, and 10% of Bitcoin's, the corresponding prices would be $1,622, $4,054, and $8,109 respectively, though the firm stressed those scenarios are not price predictions. Grayscale's Zcash ETF also moved to NYSE Arca from OTCQX and trades under the ticker ZCSH, giving investors exposure to spot ZEC without requiring them to hold tokens or manage wallets and private keys. Zcash uses proof-of-work, caps supply at 21 million coins, and supports zero-knowledge proofs to conceal transaction details. Its intents technology coordinates cross-chain trades, such as swapping other digital assets into ZEC.

Zcash Up Roughly 19x in a Year; Grayscale Says It Remains Undervalued

Privacy-focused cryptocurrency Zcash has risen roughly 19x over the past year, yet its market capitalization remains below 1% of Bitcoin's. Digital asset manager Grayscale says Zcash is still undervalued, with financial privacy, cybersecurity development, and cross-chain connectivity potentially helping it expand its market share. As of Aug. 29, Bitcoin's market cap stood at $1.56 trillion, while Zcash's was $13.74 billion — about 0.88% of Bitcoin's. That puts Bitcoin at roughly 114 times Zcash's market cap. Grayscale calculated that if ZEC were to reach 2%, 5%, and 10% of Bitcoin's market cap, the implied prices would be $1,622, $4,054, and $8,109, respectively; the firm stressed these scenarios are not price predictions. On Aug. 25, Grayscale's Zcash ETF, trading under the ticker ZCSH, moved from OTCQX to NYSE Arca, giving investors exposure to spot ZEC without directly holding tokens or managing wallets and private keys. Zcash uses a proof-of-work consensus mechanism with a fixed 21 million supply and supports zero-knowledge proofs to hide transaction details. Its intents technology can coordinate cross-chain transactions based on user goals, such as swapping other digital assets into ZEC.

Grayscale launches first spot Zcash ETF as ZEC pulls back after eight-year high

Grayscale’s Zcash ETF began trading on NYSE Arca on Tuesday under the ticker ZCSH, marking what the company says is the first exchange-traded product anywhere in the world to offer spot exposure to a privacy-focused digital asset. The fund was created by converting Grayscale’s existing Zcash Trust, which held nearly $305 million in assets as of Tuesday, into an ETF and renaming the registrant The Zcash ETF. The product traces its roots to a private placement launched in October 2017. Grayscale filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission last November to convert the trust and later submitted a fifth amended registration statement on Aug. 21. That filing said the fund charges a 2.5% fee, with revenue for at least the next 12 months set aside for marketing efforts and support for the Zcash ecosystem. It also disclosed that a subsidiary of parent company Digital Currency Group is considering buying roughly 200,000 ZEC through the trust. The launch came one day after ZEC surged 66% to $841, its highest level in eight years, before falling about 8% on Tuesday. Unchained also noted that the ETF debut arrived less than three months after a critical flaw was found in Zcash’s Orchard shielded pool and later patched.

Grayscale legal chief says Zcash enters a new institutional phase after ETP launch

Grayscale Investments Chief Legal Officer Craig Salm said the firm’s Zcash investment product has been upgraded into what he called the world’s first Zcash exchange-traded product, or ETP, opening a wider compliant access route for a privacy-focused crypto asset. According to Salm, investors can now gain exposure to ZEC through a traditional financial product registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He said that shift shows the Zcash ecosystem, after nearly a decade of development, is moving into a new institutional stage. Salm also revisited Grayscale’s earlier Zcash product timeline, noting that the firm launched the Zcash Investment Trust in 2018, when the ZEC trust was one of only four products it offered. After years of regulatory engagement, that vehicle was recently converted into the Zcash ETP under the ticker ZCSH. Grayscale also pointed to on-chain usage data, saying shielded transactions hit a record 59.3% of ZEC transactions in February 2026 and moved back near that level after the latest Ironwood upgrade, while about 4.4 million ZEC are currently held in the shielded pool, equal to roughly 26% of circulating supply.

Grayscale launches first spot Zcash ETF as ZEC rises about 45% ahead of listing

Grayscale Investments has launched the first exchange-traded fund that directly tracks privacy coin Zcash, adding a new product to the crypto ETF market. The fund, trading under the ticker ZCSH, officially listed on NYSE Arca on Tuesday after being converted from Grayscale’s existing Zcash Trust rather than being created as a brand-new vehicle. According to a Grayscale spokesperson, the ETF charges a 2.5% management fee, and the related revenue will be returned to the Zcash ecosystem to support network upgrades and technical development. Grayscale index products head Steve Vanourny said the firm sees rising demand for financial privacy as artificial intelligence changes how financial activity is monitored and tracked. He also said the launch gives investors a compliant way to gain exposure to privacy-focused digital assets. Ahead of the debut, Grayscale filed its fifth registration amendment with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission last week, reinforcing expectations that the ETF was close to market. ZEC responded with a rally, gaining about 45% over the past few days. A separate amended filing had also shown that a subsidiary of Grayscale parent Digital Currency Group was considering buying roughly 200,000 ZEC through the trust. Before the conversion took effect on Monday, assets under management in the original Zcash Trust had exceeded $313.5 million.

ZEC drops 7.6% to $787 a day after Grayscale’s spot Zcash ETF listing

Zcash’s token gave back part of its recent surge on Wednesday, falling 7.6% to $787 after a sharp one-week rally of 56% that had pushed the price to around $880, an eight-year high. The pullback came just after Grayscale’s Zcash Trust completed its conversion into a spot exchange-traded fund and began trading on NYSE Arca on Tuesday under the ticker ZCSH. The trust holds about 393,000 ZEC, valued at more than $260 million. In the days leading up to the ETF debut, ZEC climbed from below $600 to above $880, reaching its highest level since 2018. Market trading around the move drew comparisons with Bitcoin’s 21 million supply cap and proof-of-work model, feeding a “next Bitcoin” narrative. At the same time, open interest in ZEC perpetual futures nearly doubled to $1.8 billion, showing how leveraged positioning expanded during the rally. Broader crypto markets also weakened on the day, with Bitcoin down 2% to $78,900 and most major tokens closing lower after a week-long rebound.

Grayscale’s Spot Zcash ETF Starts Trading on NYSE Arca With a 2.5% Fee

Grayscale’s spot Zcash exchange-traded fund, trading under the ticker ZCSH, began trading on NYSE Arca on Aug. 25. The company described it as the first exchange-traded product globally to offer spot exposure to Zcash (ZEC), with an annual management fee of 2.5%. The fund was previously a private trust launched in 2017, and its shares had been quoted on OTCQX since 2021. Grayscale Index Head Steve Vanourny said demand for genuine financial privacy will grow as AI reshapes how financial activity is monitored, adding that ZCSH gives investors access to what he called the market’s leading privacy asset. The fund’s ZEC is held by Coinbase Custody Trust Company. As of the end of June, the trust had $155.2 million in net assets and held about 2.3% of circulating ZEC. A subsidiary of parent company Digital Currency Group is also discussing a transaction in which authorized participants would exchange about 200,000 ZEC for fund shares, which could make up a large portion of fund ownership.

US Treasury launches quantum-readiness group as Grayscale lists Zcash ETF and BlackRock lowers in-kind Bitcoin ETF threshold

A dense stretch of crypto and adjacent market developments unfolded between Aug. 25 and Aug. 26. The US Treasury said it is launching a Quantum Readiness Working Group, a public-private effort meant to help the financial sector migrate toward quantum-resistant technology in an orderly and operationally resilient way. One of its three workstreams is focused on digital assets and emerging technology risks. In Thailand, the securities regulator opened a public consultation on draft rules for crypto ETFs, with Bitcoin and Ether set as the only eligible assets at the initial stage and comments accepted through Sept. 20. Product launches and market-structure changes also stood out. Grayscale converted its Zcash Trust into the Zcash ETF, ticker ZCSH, and listed it on NYSE Arca, calling it the first ETF to provide direct Zcash exposure. The fund charges a 2.5% fee, and Grayscale said the revenue generated from that fee will flow back to the Zcash ecosystem. BlackRock, meanwhile, cut the minimum trade size for investors using in-kind Bitcoin subscriptions to create ETF shares from $25 million to $1 million in July. Robbie Mitchnick, BlackRock’s head of digital assets, said IBIT has now processed more than $5 billion of those conversions. Elsewhere, Kraken said some customer accounts were temporarily inaccessible after receiving tiny token transfers tied to a wallet associated with sanctioned rival HTX, while LayerZero outlined plans for an institutional onchain exchange called ATLAS. Several funding rounds, whale-position updates, tokenized-equity products, and ETF flow data rounded out the latest batch of market-moving items.
