Trump says a deal with Iran remains possible, but says he trusts Tehran less
U.S. President Donald Trump said a deal with Iran could still be reached, even as he signaled growing distrust toward Tehran during remarks at a Cabinet meeting. Asked whether a ceasefire should be restored after alternating attacks involving Iran, Trump said, “We just want to win,” and described Iran as having been hit hard. He said Iran had no navy, no air force and no air defenses, while adding that it still retained limited capabilities. Trump also repeated that Iran would not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, saying the Middle East would already have been destroyed if Tehran had one. Looking ahead, he told reporters Washington would strike Iran “very hard” and said that at some point Iran would say it could no longer take it. Trump added that an agreement remained achievable and said Witkoff, Kushner, Vance and Rubio were all involved. At the same time, he accused Iran of lying and said he had grown increasingly distrustful after Iran launched five missiles at Jordan during negotiations.
