GOAL reported that Ajax do not intend to offer Oleksandr Zinchenko a new contract while he trains with the club during his recovery. The arrangement comes as he works through the final stage of his comeback, with Ajax believing they already have enough options at left-back.
Training during recovery
On Tuesday morning, news emerged that Zinchenko will train with Ajax for the time being as he works through the final stage of his recovery. The Ukrainian suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his second match for the Amsterdam club last season. He has not played for Ajax since.
Options at left-back
Ajax believe they have enough players at left-back. Caio Henrique, Owen Wijndal, Jofre Torrents and potentially Youri Baas are already among Ajax's options in that position.
Limited winter budget
GOAL reported that Ajax also have little financial room this winter, according to Lentin Goodijk, Voetbal International's Ajax correspondent. Ajax want to use what room they do have to strengthen other positions.
Priority in attack
Lentin Goodijk, Voetbal International's Ajax correspondent, said: "They would much rather sign a striker or a winger. Ajax really lack depth up front at the moment."
