Bologna won 2-0 away to Cagliari in Serie A, returning to winning ways after a 3-1 defeat to Inter before the match. Nicolò Casale and Federico Bernardeschi scored for Bologna.
Form and absences before kick-off
Cagliari had been on a run of three straight wins and a 1-1 draw against Juventus before this match, but had also lost 4-0 at Monza on Monday. Yael Trepy, Riyad Idrissi and Mattia Felici remained long-term absentees.
Bologna had turned a corner since Raffaele Palladino replaced Domenico Tedesco, but had suffered his first defeat, 3-1 to Inter, before this match. Roberto Piccoli, Riccardo Orsolini and Emil Holm were out with muscular strains.
Casale opens the scoring
Casale scored with a header from Juan Miranda's delivery after a series of corner kicks to put Bologna in front. It was Casale's first Serie A goal since January 2023.
Second-half change and penalty
Harry Winks felt a twinge in his back as the second half was about to kick off, leading to an unexpected substitution by Fabio Pisacane.
Bernardeschi then scored from the penalty spot after Juan Rodriguez charged down his shot with his hand, sealing a 2-0 win for Bologna.
