Michael Carrick and Bruno Fernandes held clear-the-air talks at Manchester United's Carrington training ground on Tuesday before the team's trip to Chelsea, with several reports saying the conversation could open the way for Fernandes to return to the starting line-up. Carrick will take charge for Saturday's trip to Chelsea, with United 16th in the Premier League on 7 points from eight matches.
Fernandes' recent situation
Fernandes was an unused substitute in Manchester United's 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth. He had criticised Carrick's tactics after Manchester United's 4-1 loss against Como.
Explaining the decision to leave Fernandes out against Bournemouth, Carrick said: "He is ready and available, but we decided to choose the line-up we played with today. Unfortunately, we were unable to achieve the desired result."
Carrick preferred to pick Youri Tielemans and Mason Mount instead of Fernandes for the Bournemouth game.
