Roma lost 3-2 to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday after leading 2-0 in the opening 18 minutes. It was Roma's second defeat in all competitions this season, and Bryan Cristante said the team must learn and improve.
How the match turned
Roma went 2-0 up in the first 18 minutes and then conceded three times after the break. Manchester United got back into the game early in the second half when Gianluca Mancini fouled Matheus Cunha and a penalty was awarded.
Cristante on Roma's display
Cristante told Sky Sport Italia: "We played great in the first half. We could have scored more than two goals, but obviously, the opponents are strong, too. Sometimes, when they push, it’s hard to contain them. Surely we had to do more, especially since we had already been there."
The Italian midfielder concluded: "The first half in a stadium like this, against a strong team, is a positive thing. They are not at their best, but they have strong players. We must learn that not everything is positive. We know we must improve in this. We’ll work on this and try to understand what we are getting wrong."
His view of the penalty
Cristante said: "I didn’t see the penalty, but from the field it seemed very doubtful to me."
Second defeat of the season
Football Italia said Roma's previous defeat this season was a home Champions League match against Real Madrid in October, when Roma lost 4-3 after giving up a two-goal lead.
