TEAMtalk reported that Premier League clubs and others are monitoring Bayern Munich teenager Lennart Karl after public criticism from Uli Hoeness and concerns about Karl's situation at the club. There is no suggestion that Karl's departure is imminent.
Hoeness makes public warning
Hoeness publicly warned Karl against getting carried away by the attention surrounding him.
The Bayern legend and honorary president told BILD: "I intend to have a serious conversation with him. He is far from being a superstar."
Hoeness also said: "Young players need to have humility. The comparisons with Olise are clearly not doing him any good. There is still a huge difference between the two."
Karl's position at Bayern
Karl signed a new contract with Bayern earlier, with his deal running until 2029. TEAMtalk reported that Karl turned down interest from Arsenal and Liverpool before signing that new Bayern contract.
Karl registered nine goals and seven assists across 34 appearances for Vincent Kompany’s side last season. This season, he has been restricted to two Bundesliga starts and one in the Champions League.
TEAMtalk reported that Bayern are unhappy with aspects of Karl’s off-field behaviour.
Clubs alerted to the situation
TEAMtalk reported that intermediaries have been making calls as clubs keep a close eye on Karl’s situation. TEAMtalk reported that Arsenal and Liverpool are aware of developments in Karl’s situation, and that Manchester United have also been alerted to Karl’s situation.
TEAMtalk reported that Barcelona and Real Madrid are understood to retain an interest in Karl.
