Tonda Eckert spoke about Cyle Larin and Flynn Downes after Southampton's goalless draw with Bolton, with West Ham still a target for both.

Tonda Eckert gave injury updates on Cyle Larin and Flynn Downes after Southampton's goalless draw with Bolton. Both players still have a chance of being involved for Southampton's trip to West Ham.

Larin forced off against Bolton

Larin was forced off after 41 minutes in the goalless draw with Bolton following a collision with goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu. Eckert said: "I think he had a collision early on and then he tried to carry on, but then I asked for a sub at one point. We’ll see how serious it is, but I’m hopeful he’ll be in for next week."

Downes pushing to return

Downes missed the draw with Bolton after injuring his ankle in the first half at Norwich. Eckert said: "It’s one of the three ligaments on the outside. He’s done a couple of bits now where the medical team was surprised that he could do it. With the game coming up, he’s trying to push. It will be about how he manages pain. He’ll push for West Ham and see how we get through the week. That’s what we push for. It’s ambitious, but it’s possible."

Risk not ruled out

Eckert has not ruled Downes out for Southampton's trip to West Ham. Before the Bolton game, Downes had told Eckert: "Strap me up, and I’ll play on Saturday." Saints Marching wrote before that game that Eckert was unlikely to risk him.
