TEAMtalk reported that Estevao is growing increasingly frustrated with life under Xabi Alonso at Chelsea. The outlet added that his situation could be revisited in January if his involvement does not improve.
Limited minutes so far
Estevao has played just 47 minutes of Premier League football this term. TEAMtalk reported that he has been shocked by how little first-team football he has been afforded so far this season and believes he should be playing more regularly.
Selection picture at Chelsea
Estevao was left on the substitutes’ bench for Chelsea’s home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Geovany Quenda was handed a starting spot ahead of Estevao in that match. Morgan Rogers’ arrival and Pedro Neto’s growing importance to the side have made Estevao’s route into the starting XI increasingly difficult.
Chelsea's position
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has urged members of his squad to remain patient and bide their time, insisting opportunities will come. Chelsea sources insist Estevao remains a significant part of the club’s long-term plans. Chelsea insist they have no plans to allow Estevao to leave on loan and remain committed to his long-term development, believing he can become an important player in the years ahead.
January assessment point
During the recent international break, Estevao started both of Brazil’s friendly matches. TEAMtalk reported that sources indicate the turn of the year could prove an important point in assessing his future, and that Chelsea’s position could be revisited in January if he is still not receiving the minutes expected by that stage of the season.
