In Brazil, Flamengo responded after journalist Thiago Asmar claimed that Jorginho returned an adverse result in an anti-doping test. Flamengo were eliminated by Estudiantes from the Copa Libertadores via a penalty shoot-out, with Jorginho missing his kick in a 3-2 defeat.
Asmar's claim
Thiago Asmar claimed that Jorginho returned an adverse result in an anti-doping test in Brazil. Asmar also reported that an initial sample from Jorginho came back positive, and said a second analysis was reportedly scheduled for 27 October.
Flamengo's position
Renan Moura states: "The matter involving the possible doping from Jorginho, reported by the journalist Thiago Asmar, is already hanging over Flamengo ahead of the return leg of the Copa Libertadores semi-finals, but upon investigation, the club says it has not been notified about the issue to date. As such, the midfielder played normally against Estudiantes yesterday at the Maracana."
Moura states: "The club is also unaware of any possible second analysis to be conducted next week. I learned that there was, however, a routine and traditional Conmebol technical visit to Flamengo before the quarterfinals against Del Valle, to collect anti-doping tests."
What Moura said about Conmebol
Moura states: "In contact, a Conmebol member says they are unaware of the episode involving the red-and-black player. Another representative of the South American entity stated that all and any doping control processes are subject to total internal confidentiality. As such, it is not possible to confirm whether a player, whoever it may be, is under investigation or not."
FootballTransfers said there has been no official confirmation of an anti-doping violation.
Separate appeal over Marcos Rojo
FootballTransfers reported that Flamengo have lodged an appeal against the presence of Marcos Rojo in the Estudiantes side. FootballTransfers reported that Flamengo claim Marcos Rojo was ineligible for the tie because he had not received Conmebol registration to play the match.
