Lyon lost 3-0 to Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday. Paulo Fonseca fielded a heavily rotated side and said the selection was made with the PSG match in mind.
Fonseca explains the selection
Fonseca said in the post-match debrief: "We managed the team's playing time because we have a very important and very difficult match for us against PSG. So I have to manage the playing time."
He said he took full responsibility for his team selection.
Lineup and first-half incident
The lineup against Hoffenheim featured Rémi Himbert and Steeve Kango.
Steeve Kango suffered a fall and was transported to a hospital during the first half.
Fonseca on his message to the players
Fonseca said in the post-match debrief: "Maybe my message didn't get through. The way we had to play here was clear, I had talked a lot with the players. But the message may not have passed, I don't know."
Lyon had won their opening two Europa League fixtures before the defeat at Hoffenheim.
PSG fixture remains subject to change
Lyon are level on points with PSG and are first on goal difference.
GOAL reported that the scheduling of the PSG match remains subject to change because of widespread police mobilisation across France.
GOAL reported that the LFP does not wish to postpone the PSG match and that the final call rests with the Prefecture of Police.
GOAL reported that if the security situation forces a delay, the PSG match could be moved to Monday evening, potentially coinciding with the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London.
