Phil Foden said he hopes his improving form with Manchester City can earn him an England recall after missing out on the World Cup. He also said he has not really spoken with England boss Thomas Tuchel about his international situation.
Trying to reach his best level again
Foden said he believes he is starting to rediscover his best level. Foden said: "Hopefully I can get back to that level. I feel like I’m starting to get back there now with my recent performances so hopefully I can keep growing and getting better."
Confidence from regular football
Foden said regular football and his recent involvement in his side’s goals are helping to rebuild his confidence. Foden said: "Being involved in goals gives you a lot of confidence and when you’re playing regularly as well, you kind of just get into a rhythm and a groove."
Foden said: "Also it helps when you play with similar players as well. You kind of understand what they’re going to do before even thinking about it."
Foden said: "All those things definitely help but we’ll see what happens."
What he said about Tuchel
Foden said: "I haven’t really spoken with him to be honest so not much to say on that."
Still hoping for another chance
When asked about missing the World Cup, Foden said: "It’s one of those things, football is full of ups and downs. It’s one of those things you can’t control and you just have to keep trying your best on the football field, keep putting in performances and that’s all I try and do really. Focus on my own game, and hopefully one day the call-up might come back."
