Youssouf Fofana told El Pais his AC Milan departure could have been handled differently, but said there are no hard feelings and that he is at Sevilla.

Youssouf Fofana said in an interview with El Pais that his departure from AC Milan could have been handled differently, but that there are no hard feelings. The French midfielder also said Sevilla really wanted him and that he is at Sevilla.

What Fofana said about leaving Milan

Fofana said: "My departure from AC Milan? There were other ways to handle the situation, but they chose their own way and there are no hard feelings. Today we’re all happy: I’m at Sevilla and they have the team they wanted."

Why he chose Sevilla

Fofana said: "It all happened very quickly. I didn't have time to think, but one thing mattered: Sevilla really wanted me. I didn't want to keep waiting at AC Milan because I knew I wouldn't play. I go where I'm wanted and where they have faith in me."

The summer decision

Following the arrival of Ruben Amorim as head coach over the summer, Fofana ended up on the list of players deemed surplus to requirements heading into the 2026-27 season, along with Christopher Nkunku, David Odogu and initially Fikayo Tomori as well. Tomori returned to the squad after failing to leave by the end of the summer.

Milan decided to loan Fofana to Sevilla for the 2026-27 season on the final day of the summer transfer window. The loan deal does not include any option to buy. Football Italia reported that the Spanish side are reportedly paying just 8% of the player’s salary.
