After Newcastle United lost 1-0 to Aston Villa at St James’ Park on Saturday, reports said boss Matthias Jaissle was currently safe from the sack. Johan Manzambi scored the goal that gave Villa the win.
Jaissle's position
Football365, citing Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke, said Newcastle have no plans to sack Jaissle. O’Rourke told Football Insider: "Matthias Jaissle is still highly regarded within the Newcastle hierarchy."
Joelinton on the style
When asked about Jaissle’s tactics, Newcastle midfielder Joelinton said: "I don’t think it’s different the way we played with Eddie ."
Joelinton also said: "He’s like everyone, disappointed. He wants to win, he’s a winner."
Late change with Dan Burn
Joelinton said Newcastle used Dan Burn as a striker in the closing stages to try to get a goal with long balls. He added: "I was just hoping he’d score. As it’s the end of the game, you go for the goal. Dan is a big guy who can win the long balls. That’s what we were trying at that moment, to play long balls and see if we could get something."
View on the performance
Joelinton said Newcastle did better than against Coventry and took a step forward in terms of the way they play, but still had room for improvement.
