Oliver Kahn expressed significant reservations about Julian Nagelsmann potentially taking the reins at Manchester United. As discussion continues around the job, Kahn said Nagelsmann must weigh whether the move would expose him to enormous risk.
Kahn points to instability
Kahn said in an interview with Sky Germany: "From his perspective, it’s not an easy situation. He isn’t someone with extensive experience at the very highest level, particularly when it comes to foreign clubs. The Premier League and Manchester United haven’t exactly been known for their managerial stability in recent years."
Nagelsmann told to consider next step
Kahn explained: "He really has to ask himself: What should my next step be? Does it have to be the right move? Or do I immediately tie myself to an enormous risk like Manchester United, where virtually every manager has sooner or later failed in recent years?"
Previous challenges mentioned
Kahn noted: "Bayern Munich and the national team were already major challenges for him. You have to think carefully about where your strengths lie and which club you can genuinely help."
Kahn backs his ability to build
Kahn concluded: "I believe Julian is someone who can build and develop a club and a team. Whether Manchester United is the right next step for him is something only he can decide."
GOAL reported that pressure is mounting on current Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, and said Nagelsmann has emerged as a primary candidate to take over at Manchester United.
