Liverpool came from 2-0 down to beat Villarreal 4-3 in a Champions League match at Anfield. The result made it three wins from three for Liverpool in the competition.
Villarreal strike twice early
Villarreal went ahead after four minutes when Georges Mikautadze scored after a Virgil van Dijk error. Alan Shearer said on TNT Sports commentary: "Mikautadze can’t believe his luck."
Shearer also said: "Liverpool’s back four made an absolute mess of it after about 30 or 40 seconds, and Van Dijk has just done exactly the same there. Absolute nightmare from Van Dijk."
He added: "A clear header. You can see what he's trying to do. It wasn’t a great clearance from Alisson, and then the ball gets played over the top, and really under no pressure at all, Van Dijk just tries to guide it back to Alisson. He gets it all wrong. Too much on it."
Sergi Cardona scored Villarreal's second goal before the half-hour mark. Shearer said: "I don’t remember as bad a half an hour as this from a Liverpool team."
Liverpool level before the break
Alexis Mac Allister scored Liverpool's first goal with a header. Ronald Araujo equalised for Liverpool before half-time.
Second-half turnaround
Mac Allister scored again in the second half to put Liverpool ahead. Florian Wirtz then scored Liverpool's fourth goal.
Late goal and standings
Tani Oluwaseyi scored a late goal for Villarreal. GOAL said Liverpool were second with nine points, while Villarreal were 19th with three points.
