CaughtOffside reported that Atlético Madrid are stepping up interest in Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes ahead of a possible January move. The report said the situation comes amid uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford.
Atlético's January interest
CaughtOffside reported that Atlético are reportedly increasing their interest in Fernandes ahead of January. Citing reports in Spain, CaughtOffside said sporting director Mateu Alemany is exploring the possibility of bringing Fernandes to Spain in January.
Recent developments at Manchester United
After publicly questioning Michael Carrick’s tactical approach following the 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como, Fernandes was left on the bench for Manchester United’s subsequent 3-0 loss to Bournemouth.
Offer status and other clubs
CaughtOffside reported that Atlético had not submitted a formal offer for Fernandes. It also reported, in an earlier CaughtOffside report, that Atlético were among several major European clubs tracking him alongside AC Milan and Juventus.
Contract position and numbers
CaughtOffside reported that Manchester United were still keen to extend Fernandes' contract at that stage. Since Carrick first took charge in January, Fernandes has registered 14 assists and created 96 chances.
