According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City remain interested in Borussia Dortmund youngster Mathis Albert after a failed approach in the summer transfer window. The 17-year-old United States international is attracting growing interest, though Premier League rules currently prevent City or Chelsea from signing him permanently until he turns 18.
City's position
TEAMtalk understands that Manchester City are interested in Albert and are currently positioned as the most determined side to sign him. TEAMtalk says City made a formal approach for Albert during the summer transfer window and have continued to monitor his situation closely.
Other interest and valuation
TEAMtalk says sources indicate City were previously prepared to meet valuations in the region of €15-20million. TEAMtalk says Chelsea maintain long-standing interest in Albert and had been willing to spend a similar amount in winter. TEAMtalk also says Paris Saint-Germain enquired about Albert in the summer and contacted the club's then sporting director Sebastian Kehl, though no deal progressed.
Albert's situation
Albert joined Dortmund from LA Galaxy academy in 2024 and his contract runs until June 2027. He has already earned senior caps for the United States and scored on international duty, but has seen only limited first-team minutes this season. Albert is eager for regular senior football to continue his development, and he is set to turn 18 in May.
Dortmund's stance
Dortmund have so far rebuffed all approaches, including loan enquiries, and insist Albert remains part of their first-team plans. Kovač has publicly stated that Albert can expect increased minutes as the season progresses. TEAMtalk says Dortmund are in contract talks over Albert.
