Reports said Manchester United are focusing on defensive additions for January, remain interested in Alejandro Balde and have made contact over Felix Nmecha.

Reports said Manchester United are prioritising defensive signings for the January transfer window and remain interested in Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde. Another report said United have also made contact over Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, with Liverpool interested as well.

Carrick points to winter additions

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick said they will “definitely be looking” to strengthen in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Sky Sports claimed that Manchester United are looking at new centre-backs as well as left-backs because their focus is on revamping their defence in the next transfer windows.

Sky Sports claimed that Lewis Hall was a priority left-back target for Manchester United in the summer, but he recently signed a new contract.

Balde remains under consideration

Manchester United remain linked with Alejandro Balde after they considered him in the summer.

Romano explained: “Espart also signed a new deal, so obviously Barcelona are well covered in that position. But then he said I’m happy Balde is working hard. He should not give up. He should be available for when we need him.”

Romano explained: “Obviously, guys, Balde was already a potential player for sale in the summer. It was not Balde who wanted to leave Barcelona in the summer. Balde wanted to stay and continue. It was Barcelona as a club open to selling Balde. Then there was no right solution.”

Romano on the deal conditions

Romano explained: “Man Utd called but there was no right solution. Let’s see what happens in January because Man Utd were interested, but the conditions of the deal were very difficult.”

Romano explained: “Barcelona were only considering a permanent exit and for big money and also the salary was a topic. United still need a left-back.”

Romano explained: “More clubs are tracking Balde. His agent is Jorge Mendes who is in connection with several clubs on a weekly basis about opportunities. And so the Balde situation is for sure one to watch again. If he’s not going to play, this could be a situation to watch in the next months.”

Romano explained: “Balde is young, he’s talented. So obviously it’s not an easy situation to clarify.”

Nmecha contact reported

CaughtOffside said Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha as both clubs assess potential reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window.

According to a TEAMtalk report cited by CaughtOffside, Manchester United have maintained their interest in Felix Nmecha and have made contact as they explore midfield options.

CaughtOffside said Liverpool are also monitoring Felix Nmecha’s situation as they consider alternatives to Bournemouth star Alex Scott.

CaughtOffside said Borussia Dortmund extended Felix Nmecha’s contract until June 2030 earlier this year and are reluctant to sell him mid-campaign.
